There is something special about being able to represent your club, and greens all over Auckland are awash with club colours! Last season, across the different categories, there were 71 teams with over 500 players from 30 clubs competing and enjoying the festivities. Bowls crown a potential record breaker for ZoeWaihopai Bowling Club’s Zoe Beck has etched her name into the history books. The 12-year-old, who is in her third year of playing bowls, having joined alongside mum Emma Drake and grandmother Diane, won her first centre title at the weekend – the Bowls Southland mixed triples alongside Craig Merrilees and Drake. With the FIFA Women’s Football World Cup being such a great success, the Ministry for Women invited applications from smaller community groups to develop activities to encourage health and wellness for women by participating in sports. The New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association (NZBLBA) was successful in a grant application to provide nine 'Have A Go' lawn bowls events, with three planned for each of Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin.
