Give Big, Pittsburgh!

Mark your calendar for “Give Big, Pittsburgh!” – Pittsburgh’s annual charitable donation event on December 2. Literacy Pittsburgh will be participating in this exciting fundraiser once again. You can make the holidays extra special for your fellow students and provide them with the tools they need to achieve their goals.

On December 2, just visit givebigpittsburgh.com and make a donation to Literacy Pittsburgh (or to any of the other great nonprofit organizations that are participating). The event will last for 24 hours only!

Here is what you can do:

  • Make a donation at our Give Big Pittsburgh profile page on December 2 between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm. Any amount will make an impact!
  • Spread the word! Text a friend, forward this email, or post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #GiveBigPittsburgh. Or you can just tell someone in person – that works, too!

Double the impact of your gift! Thanks to a generous matching gift from a local family foundation, all gifts to Literacy Pittsburgh made on Tuesday, December 2 (or anytime in November or December) will be matched at 100%. A gift of $10 becomes $20, $25 becomes $50 and $100 becomes $200.

Please tell your friends and family about the important work we do and ask them to join you in making a difference.

Congratulations to the following students!

Congratulations to Mark, Maria, and Doris who passed their naturalization tests. This is what teacher Tina wrote about them:

"Doris  is a wonderful person and student.”
"Mark had good attendance in class and worked hard to learn the information."
“Maria was a dedicated student. She practiced and worked hard, and her attendance in class was impeccable.”

"Thank you so much!!! I have reached this far because of your hard work. Three years ago I could not speak any English. Now I am making a living. Thank you very much for your hard work. I have no words to express my gratitude to you. I love my teacher, they are both amazing teachers." - South Hills Student

Yaraldin move to the United States from Colombia in May 2022. She came here through cultural exchange program called Au Pair. Yaraldin sought to expand her culture, and improve her English. Her now wife joined her here through the same program. "When I first moved here, I was looking for English classes because I didn't have a job yet and wanted to make good use of my time," Yaraldin explains. "I found Literacy Pittsburgh. I was so excited because not only were the English classes free, but they also offered many other services and had great flexibility."
