Two of the new modules that you can access include Emotion Coaching: A transformational tool and Taking notice: Taking care.

Read below for an insight into the professional development opportunities each of these modules will provide for FDCA members.

Emotion Coaching: A transformational tool

This module discusses effective ways of guiding children with big feelings and behaviours. It explores the five steps of Emotion Coaching - emotional awareness, connecting, listening, naming emotions and finding good solutions, and explains how these can be used by early childhood professionals to build trusting and respectful relationships with children.

This module will help you:

  • Understand the steps and approaches to Emotion Coaching
  • Draw on and use Emotion Coaching techniques in various situations
  • Assist children in identifying and naming their emotions
  • Support children’s self-regulation skills so they can solve problems and find good solutions
  • Turn moments of negative behaviour into teaching opportunities

Taking notice: Taking care

We experience stress - both positive and negative - through all of our senses. Our response to this stress is usually demonstrated through our behaviour, thoughts and feelings. It is therefore important to manage stressors to be able to maintain optimal energy levels and a state of calm.

This module will teach you how to listen to your mind, body and senses; identify and address stressors; and support your overall wellbeing.

This module will help you:

    • Identify stressors in your life and consider ways to reduce or remove them
    • Recognise factors that influence how you experience positive wellbeing and moments of calm
    • Plan ways to regularly take notice and take care of your wellbeing
