Dear Brookes Westshore families and friends, We are excited that the coming weeks will be filled with various field trips for our students to celebrate the end of the school year. With gratitude, Dr. Rui Li Principal Items from last year's auction - lots of great bundles to bid on! Silent Auction 2024 We are in the final few weeks of preparations for the Silent Auction and we are getting very excited! Our list of items is growing, and families are getting organised to bid! If you haven’t contributed an item to the auction yet – there is still time! We will accept items right up to the end of the day on June 6th! Please consider donating an item – the more items we have the more we can raise! For inspiration, popular items from last year include:
Haven’t bought your tickets yet? Head over to Eventbrite and make sure you don’t miss out! Feel free to invite friends and family too! The more people in the room – the more fun we will have! The students from Ukraine (and Ms. Bayes) wearing traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts - vyshyvanka. Remember: The goal of the auction is to provide funds for our seven Ukrainian students to participate fully in the community life of the school. An example of how your past contributions have made a difference: all seven Ukrainian students were able to travel to Tofino with their classmates this term for a once-in-a-lifetime weekend of surfing, sun, and friendship. They loved the chance to relax in one of the most beautiful places on earth, get to know their classmates better, and unwind from the demands of the IB. “Tofino was so beautiful – the ocean, the sunsets, the beaches. I am so grateful to be here and to take part in activities like this.” Ivan, MYP5 Thanks to everyone who has contributed already - you have made it possible for the students to be a part of this Brookes tradition! We hope to see you all on the 7th of June! MYP Design MYP 2 and 4 Design is having an informal exhibition of their work on the bridge on May 31st. Please come and enjoy sharing our students' success! The design room Makerspace will also be having an Open House on the 31st of May from 3.20 - 4.00 pm with more work and sketchbooks for you to enjoy, come and say hello! Julia and Amelie with the shoebox they made for the Shoebox Project The Shoebox Project The Shoebox Project is a Canadian campaign with several chapters across the country, including Victoria. Donations of essential items are arranged in decorated boxes, with notes of kindness, to remind women that they are thought of and valued. The project can be supported individually, or by groups including churches and schools. The Shoebox Project also offers educational resources to help raise awareness and understanding about homelessness, its impact on personal dignity and how we can demonstrate empathy and kindness in small ways. Over the last several weeks, students and staff have been bringing in personal care items and filling shoeboxes that will be distributed to women in the community who are facing difficult situations, including homelessness. We have several boxes ready to donate, plus extras to pass along to the South Vancouver Island chapter of the SBP. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Hopefully we can brighten the day of someone who needs it. For more information on the Shoebox Project, please visit http://shoeboxproject.ca Powerful Youth (updated discount information!)
