Spring has arrived in the North Cascades, and the 35th year of Mountain School is rolling along. In recent weeks, classrooms from Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley and Concrete have spent time at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center. Through hands-on outdoor activities, students engaged with the natural and cultural history of our region and strengthened their relationships with classmates and the environment. We’re looking forward to welcoming upcoming groups from La Conner, Acme and the Lummi Nation.

(Check out this inspiring new blog post on Mountain School's recent visit to Seattle Children's Hospital, bringing a bit of the North Cascades to in-patient youth!)

The Youth Leadership Adventures team is busy too, preparing for summer. Staff are ordering food and gear, practicing tandem canoeing on Diablo Lake, and reviewing student applications for this year’s multi-day backpacking and canoe-camping trips. While the application deadline has passed, students can still join the waitlist—and there’s a good chance they’ll get out on a trip.

The YLA crew is also looking forward to welcoming alumni and their families to YLA Alum Day on May 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Bay View State Park. The evening will include shared stories, games, a beach campfire, and a light dinner with past participants and prospective students.  Register here.

Through immersive outdoor experiences like Mountain School and Youth Leadership Adventures, local youth build lasting connections to nature, community, peers, and themselves. At a time when access to the outdoors remains inequitable, we are committed to providing opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to explore, grow, and thrive. With your support, we will inspire today's youth to take root and rise as the next generation of environmental leaders.

To celebrate the 35th year of Mountain School, your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $35,000!
