Secretary Walsh Visits the Hill to Discuss the President's Budget Request for the Department of LaborThis week, Secretary Martin Walsh visited Capitol Hill to testify in front of both the House and Senate regarding President Biden's FY 23 budget request for the Department of Labor. On the House-side Secretary Walsh met with the House Education and Labor Committee, while on the Senate-side he met with the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. During both hearings Secretary Walsh shared that the budget request included $303 million to expand the registered apprenticeship programs, $100 million for SCCTG, and $3.019 billion for WIOA state grants. Senate Subcommittee Hearing on Strengthening our Workforce and Economy through Higher Education & ImmigrationYesterday, the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Security held a hearing on how to strengthen our workforce and economy through higher education and immigration. The hearing touched on the 10 year anniversary of the DACA program and the need to create a pathway for Dreamers. They discussed the importance of fostering our domestic workforce, as well as attracting and retaining global talent through changes in the student visa process, and the expansion of employment-based green cards and the guestworker program.
