This popular tradition was scheduled to take place on May 17 on the Quad. Unfortunately, this year’s Staff Fest celebration will be postponed. Emory is currently working with our vendors and campus partners to determine a new date and will share details as soon as they are available. Additionally, the School of Medicine's annual Staff Appreciation Week will be postponed. Please stay tuned for new event dates and information. We look forward to celebrating our staff soon! Dhaval Desai, MD, receives highest physician honor from Please join us in congratulating DOM faculty member, Dhaval Desai, MD, (Hospital Medicine), and physician at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital, who was named one of two recipients of the E. Napier "Buck" Burson, Jr., MD, Physician Award of Distinction. The award is the highest honor for physician service at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. The Burson Award, named for the former chief of staff at Saint Joseph’s and a leader in the field of gastroenterology, is presented annually to doctors for their adherence to the Mercy philosophy and contribution to the Mercy mission in Atlanta, for their contribution to the quality of medicine practiced at Emory Saint Joseph’s and for their leadership role as a member of the medical staff. Each grant provides $1.4 million over four years to advance sexual health initiatives prioritizing Hispanic and Latino populations in the Atlanta area. Celebrating Critical Care Month - Wear Blue this Friday, May 17 May is National Critical Care Awareness and Recognition Month, and we’re recognizing our ICU heroes who provide the highest quality care to our patients every day. On Friday, May 17, we’re turning our ICU’s blue, asking everyone to wear blue to honor the commitment of these Critical Care heroes. Please join Dr. Jon Sevransky, Professor of Medicine and Associate Division Director for Critical Care, in celebrating our entire Critical Care team who go above and beyond caring for critically ill patients and their families. All three clinician-researchers are involved in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) study Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER), which is “aimed at understanding the long-term post-acute sequelae of COVID-19,” says Ofotokun, who leads the Atlanta hub of the NIH initiative and is the national chair of the RECOVER Adult Cohort Coordinating Committee. Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine climbs for American Lung Association On Saturday, April 20, the Fight for Air Climb - Atlanta held its 18th annual stair-climbing event at the Promenade Tower in Midtown Atlanta. Emory's Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine was well represented by current and former clinicians. Team Emory Iron Lungs came in third place for fundraising by bringing in $5,040 for the American Lung Association.

Health Equity Day is next Tuesday! Department of Medicine's 4th Annual Health Equity Day Attention colleagues! DOM Health Equity Day (HED), is taking place next Tuesday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Have you registered yet? This half-day conference, organized by DOM's RYSE and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, aims to raise awareness and encourage action around the systemic health disparities that exist across racial, ethnic, cultural, and social groups while also recognizing interventions and research centered on health equity and historically underrepresented groups in medicine. The year's theme is Empowering Emerging Voices and our keynote will be presented by three emerging leaders in their fields, Lashyra Nolan, Jennifer Tsai, MD, MEd, and Darshali Vyas, MD. MEDICINE GRAND ROUNDSTomorrow's Medicine Grand Rounds #MedicineGrandRounds All upcoming sessions will be hosted on Zoom, and recordings will be available on the DOM YouTube channel for CME credits. NEW procedure for claiming MGR CME creditsThe process of receiving Medicine Grand Rounds CME has recently changed. CME credit will no longer be assigned by completing the survey. As of Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Medicine Grand Rounds, the Department of Medicine will use Emory's CME Tracker for CME credits. Please note, that claiming your CME credit is TIME SENSITIVE.
