FALL RUGBY FEST

~MARK YOUR CALENDARS~
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH

The Park District is currently in the planning stage for our upcoming Fall Rugby Fest. For the second year in a row, we will kick off the festivities with a family-friendly rugby game at 1:00pm. After the game, you can enjoy food and beverages from the food trucks, beer and wine, music, and a bonfire.

At previous fall fests, we've included face painting, kids games, scarecrow building contests, and baggo's, but every year we have fewer and fewer volunteers. Four commissioners and four employees cannot run the entire event alone. These events can only happen if there is someone to help with the coordination and running of each activity. So .......

THIS YEAR, THE NUMBER OF ACTIVITIES WILL DEPEND ON THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS.

If you want to see face painting or games for the kid's, or a baggo's tournament, please step up and volunteer. Additional help is needed for parking, set-up for the event, and take-down and clean up. Unfortunately if no one volunteers, there won't be anything other than the food, beer, music and bonfire. It's up to YOU.

To volunteer, please come to the next board meeting, on Wednesday July 10th. The meeting begins at 6:30pm in the conference room of the community center located at 36630 N. Hutchins Rd. Fall Rugby Fest is an agenda item at every meeting. If you have any questions, please call 847-356-0008.

PICKLEBALL IS
HERE  !!!

Your Grandwood Park Park District is continuing to look for ways to engage with our residents and provide meaningful opportunities to get outside and enjoy your parks.

We received requests from residents to have a place for pickleball.  The tennis court located at Lake Park has been updated to include Pickleball lines. Thank you Dave and Pat Nichols for painting the lines on the court!!!  If you are new to the sport, it is recommended that you take a few minutes to learn about the game. The Prime Time Pickleball YouTube channel is a good resource, but you can find on the internet.

Topics to cover include:
·       Pickleball Basics: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide To Pickleball Rules & How To Play (Scoring & More)
·       Top ten tips
·       How to play
·       Strategies, etc.

The only equipment needed is a paddle, ball, and court shoes.  So, get out there and have fun.

WALKING PATHS

Additionally, in response to residents not knowing our neighborhood, and some not even knowing we had a lake, the Park District has put together four walking paths throughout the community.  A map of these paths is posted at three locations around the park.

The loops are identified by a mark on the sidewalk which corresponds to the color loop.

Orange Loop is 1.6 miles
Blue Loop is 2.4 miles
Red Loop is 1.9 miles
Green Loop is 1.6 miles

If you have questions, please reference the Walking Loop Map on the Grandwood Park website, GrandwoodPark.net

Put on your walking shoes and get out and enjoy our parks.

We are almost half-way through our schedule of food truck nights for 2024. We're happy to see so many folks coming out to enjoy the food, beverages, and company of friends and family. There are still 5 to go - take a look at the schedule. Let us know which truck is your favorite!!

MUSIC BY THE LAKE

Two down ... three to go!!

On June 9th Uptown Shakedown entertained the crowd, and on June 23rd we had Joe Cantafio perform (Acoustic Generation had to cancel). Both were awesome and we are looking forward to the rest of the concerts!!
