The Road 2 NEXt sUcceSs (R2NEXUS) workshop series is designed to support our career development awardees on the path toward independent funding (NIH K, VA CDA, AHA SDG, or another career development). The R2NEXUS workshop series was developed to offer a unique opportunity to facilitate career development and skills training, enhance the transition to independent funding, standardize the information CDA awardees receive, and supplement the advice and direction received from the CDA mentor(s).

Emory researcher imagines a new approach to the science of aging
Emory researcher Vincent Marconi believes the science of aging must look beyond traditional doctoring to encompass a holistic, whole-body approach to healthy aging.

 

Georgia CTSA creates online learning and current development system for clinical research professionals
Purposeful training and career support are necessary to meet the expanding roles of clinical research professionals period to address these needs, GA CTSA developed an online career navigation system, eMPACT (eMpowering Purposeful Advancement of Careers and Training). In a new paper in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science, Georgia CTSS demonstrates the strong interdisciplinary and inter institutional collaboration in creating eMPACT.

Jung, associate professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Political Science.

FAALI lecture series: Benefits, limits, and risks of ChatGPT as an AI chatbot for medicine: Education, research, clinical care, and administrative task

Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT have witnessed rapid adoption in many domains including healthcare. At Emory Healthcare and University, several projects are in process of deployment using these LLMs for patient care, administrative tasks, and education. In this talk we will review what these LLMs are, why they are different from prior AI developments, how they are useful, and benefits/risks of their use.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide funding support to utilize the existing services and technologies offered by the nineteen EICF cores to generate data for research projects.

Supporting People with HIV as Leaders in HIV Systems of Care
Deadline: Monday, April 1
The purpose of this FOA is to support leadership development and enhance meaningful engagement for people with HIV in health care planning and programs inclusive of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP)-funded organizations. 

NIAID Clinical Trial Implementation Cooperative Agreement (U01 Clinical Trial Required)
Deadlines: 30 days prior (LOI); May 13; September 13, January 13, 2025; May 13, 2025; September 15, 2025; January 13, 2026; May 13, 2026; September 14, 2026; January 13, 2027
The purpose of this FOA is to encourage cooperative agreement applications for implementation of investigator-initiated, high-risk clinical trials and mechanistic studies associated with high-risk clinical trials.

Continuous Ketone Monitoring for the Safe Use of Sodium-glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors in Type 1 Diabetes (R01 Clinical trial Required)
Deadlines: May 27 (LOI); June 27 (Full application)
The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications for studies that will develop and test risk mitigation strategies that involve the clinical integration of CKM for the safe use of SGLT2i for people living with T1D so that they may benefit from the cardiac and renal protection and glucose-lowering effects of this drug class. 

Ending the Epidemic: New Models of Integrated HIV/AIDS, Addiction, and Primary Care Services (R34 Clinical Trial Required)
Deadlines: August 20, 2024 and March 19, 2025
The purpose of this FOA is to support the development and testing of enhanced models of care that optimally integrate HIV, Hepatitis B and C, addiction, and primary care services. 

 
 

Would you like assistance reviewing your grant proposal? DOM researchers can request grant writing and editing services from Janet Gross, PhD on projects including resubmissions, career development awards, and multicenter grants. These services are offered through a cost sharing effort between the department and the researcher’s division and must be approved by both.

Vincent Marconi and Kim Workowski (PIs, Infectious Diseases) received funding from Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC. for a project entitled, “A phase 3, randomized, active-controlled, double-blind clinical study to evaluate the antiretroviral activity, safety, and tolerability of Doravirine/Islatravir once-daily in HIV-1 infected treatment-naive participants.”

Avanthika Wynn (Pulmonary) received funding from IQVIA RDS, Inc. for a project entitled, “Reparixin 1200 mg three times a day as add-on therapy to standard of care to limit disease progression in hospitalised adult patients with COVID-19 other community-acquired pneumonia. A multinational, multicentre, randomised, double blinded, placebo-controlled, parallel-group phase III trial (REPAVID-22).”

Guillermo Umpierrez (Endocrinology) received funding from Corcept Therapeutics Incorporated for a project entitled, “Study of hypercortisolism in patients with difficult to control type 2 diabetes despite receiving standard-of-care therapies: prevalence and treatment with Korlym® (Mifepristone) (CATALYST).”

Laura Hansen (Cardiology) received funding from NHLBI for a project entitled, “Heterogeneity of satellite cell populations play a role in improvements in PAD after exercise therapy.”
