Agnes Brown had a busy spring. Not only did she finish her student teaching at her high school alma mater, Sacred Hearts Academy, to earn her elementary education degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu, but she also won the prestigious Miss Aloha Hula title at the annual Merrie Monarch Festival.
The talented hula dancer is also a faithful Catholic.
“A very huge priority in my life is my faith, and also being a part of hula, being able to share that faith through hula,” she says.
Her faith is something she’s been surrounded by since birth.
Agnes Renee Leihiwahiwaikapolionamakua Thronas Brown and her younger sister, Emily, were raised by their parents, Ryan Brown and Mandy Thronas-Brown, in Kaneohe. The family was and still is active at St. Ann Parish, with the girls being altar servers and their parents involved in various ministries. Read more...

‘Ohana Mass, Jun 24
|
|
|
Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.
Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Honolulu
From the Office for Social Ministry
At Mary, Star of the Sea Church on Oahu, parishioners have established their Ministry for Persons with Disabilities by welcoming persons with varying gifts and abilities to celebrate the “‘Ohana Mass.” Ushers who are members of the Knights of Columbus offer a warm welcome and escort them to the designated pews where they were able to better participate in the Eucharist. After Mass, the community continues fellowship together through a potluck supper where all joyfully serve each other with nourishing food and aloha. These ‘Ohana Masses and potluck fellowship normally take place on the fourth Saturday each month, 5:30 PM at Mary, Star of the Sea where all are welcomed to celebrate and share their gifts as one ‘Ohana. This month, Mary, Star of the Sea will celebrate the ‘Ohana Mass on Saturday June 24, 2023.
Livestream available at Mary, Star of the Sea's YouTube Channel.

Saint of the Week
Saint Aloysius Gonzaga
1568–1591
Memorial – June 21
Luigi Gonzaga was the firstborn son of eight children, and the scion to a wealthy and noble inheritance. He was born into the Duchy of Mantua, modern-day northern Italy, which was ruled by his family, the princely House of Gonzaga. Luigi was the Italian version of his name; Aloysius was the Latin version. His father, Ferrante Gonzaga, was Governor of Milan, Viceroy of Sicily, and a general in the army of the Holy Roman Emperors Charles V and Philip II. As the oldest son, Luigi was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps through a military career. Ferrante began training Luigi as a soldier when Luigi was just four years old. Luigi’s mother, a devout Catholic, had different hopes for her son. Read more...
