Theory of Knowledge Exhibition (ToK) with DP1 students Kingston, Jeongmin, and Milo. Dear Brookes Westshore families and friends, What an eventful week we have had at Brookes Westshore! It’s been filled with incredible activities, enriching experiences, and moments that brought our community closer together. The MYP1 field trips were a great success, our athletes did really well at the City Championships at UVic, and our MYP drama performances on Thursday were so much fun! You can see photos from all of these activities, and more, below. Also, on Thursday we held the DP1 TOK (Theory of Knowledge) exhibition. Students showcased their understanding and critical thinking through thought-provoking presentations. It was inspiring to see their exploration of knowledge questions and how they applied their learning to real world situations. Special thanks to our DP1 TOK teacher, Mr. Ward! And today we were honoured to have a guest speaker, Mami Schouten, from UVic, speak to our MYP5 students about diversity, inclusion and equity as part of their BC First Peoples course. Their insights provided a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural heritage and traditions of First Nations peoples. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of respect, understanding, and reconciliation. Special thanks to Ms. Newman for organizing this! Thank you to all students, teachers, and parents who made this week unforgettable. Your enthusiasm and support are what make our school such a vibrant and dynamic place. As we approach the end of the school year, let’s continue to celebrate our achievements and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead. I hope I will see you at the Auction tonight! With gratitude, Dr. Rui Li Principal Yearbook Sales will continue until the end of the school year by request only. Please email Ms. Brooklyn to arrange purchase and pick up! The last day for ASA's is Friday June 14th. On Sunday we are hosting past students from Brookes Shawnigan Lake and Brookes Westshore for a brunch in the dining hall. We are really looking forward to catching up with them and hearing about their adventures - some of them graduated in 2010! DP 1 Group 4 Projects The DP1 students went to East Sooke Park to collect data for their Group 4 projects on Monday. The Group 4 project is a collaborative and multidisciplinary activity, which encourages DP Science students to appreciate the environmental, social, and ethical implications of science. They collected and analyzed their data in the morning and presented their projects back at Brookes in the afternoon! MYP Drama Congratulations to the MYP1A and MYP3 drama classes for some terrific “fractured” fairytale performances yesterday. Students captivated the audience with a different take on some traditional fairytales, from “Little Red Boxer Shorts” to “Gingerlocks” it was a morning full of entertainment and laughs. It was wonderful to see so many parents in the audience. A final big shout out to MYP3 student Adrien for running the sound for all the performances We are excited to share with you the highlights of our recent educational tour to the BC Legislature. The tour, aptly titled “A House for Democracy,” was an enlightening experience that allowed our students to explore the intricate designs of the Parliament Buildings and understand their historical significance. Under the guidance of the spirit of the renowned architect Francis Rattenbury, our students embarked on a captivating journey through time. They engaged in insightful discussions about the significance of these structures to British Columbians today, right within the walls of these historic buildings. Camp Thunderbird To mark the end of another successful school year, MYP1 students enjoyed a fun-filled day field trip to Camp Thunderbird. The activities were a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, allowing everyone to unwind and celebrate their achievements. Another great weekend last weekend for our dorm students – ziplining in the treetops, a visit to the stunning (and aptly named) Mystic Beach and ending with a fun evening BBQ on our rooftop patio. We love to share the amazing environment of Vancouver Island with students from around the world. Many of them will try out activities that they have never tried before - and some find a love of outdoor adventure that they didn’t know they had! Congratulations to our grade 6-8 track & field team, who participated in the city championships yesterday. Athletes had to qualify for this meet which means they all placed in the top 16 in the city in their respective events. Their coaches were very pleased with their fine performances.
