Our manager of Compliance and Investigation shared that serious incidents are decreasing, but those that are being reported to the ESB tend to be similar in theme. To continue our support of the sector, our October Bulletin outlines the trends that we are seeing and provides a reminder on how to report incident, injury, trauma and/or illness. We also share the circumstances in which we might request more information and how that is communicated by our Compliance and Investigation or Quality Assessment team. If you are intending to apply for service approval and/or amendment before the end of the year, please be aware that these processes are tied to legislative time frames and may not be completed before the new year. Considerations and deadlines are outlined in this month’s bulletin.
Kerry Leaver Trends in complianceAs part of our standard monitoring over the past 12 months, we have identified that the most reported serious incident was children being unaccounted for or going missing. The second-most frequently reported incident was risks to health, safety or wellbeing within the learning environment. Recording incidents, injury, trauma or illnessCritically reflecting on your incident, injury, illness or trauma records periodically is a good practice to include when looking at your internal record keeping and management systems. Service approvals and amendmentsApproved providers may look to submit service approvals and/or amendments before the end of the year. The Education Standards Board wish to remind you that these processes adhere to legislative timeframes and may not be completed before the new year. Request of Information notices When we are seeking background information and documentation regarding an incident or complaint or as part of the Quality Assessment process, we send you a Request of Information (ROI) notice pursuant to either section 206 or section 215 of the National Law. At the beginning of this financial year, we made some changes to this process to address feedback from the sector.
