Tat-Pac wins back-to-back titlesThe Bowls Auckland Champ of Champ Triples wrapped up last weekend at Royal Oak Bowls, drawing a large crowd eager to witness the high-level competition. The atmosphere was buzzing, the competition was fierce, and the level of play was nothing short of spectacular! Men's Event The all 1-5 Pakuranga trio of Garratt, Ward and Lucas narrowly defeated Mt Albert’s team of Grantham, Watkins, and Thompson in the round of 32. Howick's team, featuring Hurren, Vermeulen, and Hand, put up a strong fight against seasoned Reed, Williams, and Davis from Pt Chevalier in the round of 16. Blockhouse Bay triumphs in thrilling 1-5 Year Fours FinalThe 1-5 Year Fours Finals, initially delayed by daylight savings, finally found its thrilling conclusion at the Royal Oak, coinciding with the COC Triples Finals. The atmosphere was full of excitement as Freddie Te Whare and his Blockhouse Bay team—Hemoata Brown, Neil Prendiville, and Bronwyn Hunter—faced off against Royal Oak’s strong finalists: “Flash” Gordon, Ross Powell, Ran Randeniya, and Peter McConnell. Despite Royal Oak’s home crowd advantage, Blockhouse Bay arrived with their entourage ready to level the playing field with supporters! The crowd’s anticipation was evident as they gathered around the green, with the Women’s Triples and the 1-5 Year Fours Finals running concurrently, each bowl shifting the tension and suspense between the two contests. Refreshed Strategy and DirectionStrategic Plans can either be something you must do which likely gets chucked into the bottom drawer, or they can set an inspiring northern star, that aims to tell a compelling story and establish a framework to unite, advance, and innovate within the bowls community. Bowls Auckland wanted to fall into the latter category, and so embarked on a journey to refresh their strategic plan. Pinkel Park's Pink Ribbon DaySponsors, supporters and everyone who donated big thank you for fueling the fight against breast cancer! It was a great girls' day out! College Day-- By Murray Lander On a brilliantly fine Sunday (19 May), 10 teams battled it out to be the winner of the annual fours tournament, where teams comprised players having a secondary school in common. Three teams had three wins, with Selwyn College narrowly holding out Northcote College and Avondale College on an ends and points count-back. Many teams got into the spirit of the day, sporting school regalia, team shirts and team caps – it very much added to the enjoyment of what was a fun day. Next year, we would like to build better participation in this event. Part of the problem is that current team members do not know who to call on for replacements when other team members retire. If you are keen to participate and would like to become part of a school team, please email Murray Lander. The Fours is the last competition in the Champ of Champs series. And like the previous competitions, we’re looking forward to witnessing the club’s top-notch bowlers in action. Qualifying rounds, are at Remuera for the Women and Royal Oak for the Men and all post-section action at Royal Oak. We are broadcasting both Men’s and Women’s Finals on Sunday:
