Grant Writing - Grant Application Budgets When: 26 October 2021, 2:00pm - 3:00pm Grant funding is often needed to enable research to be undertaken. Winning research grants is competitive and hard where the budget is a critical part of the grant application. This session will cover all of the basics you need to know when getting started with grant application budgets. Register here. Data Manipulation and Visualisation in R When: 26-27 October 2021, 9:30am - 12:30pm Do you have a good knowledge of the basic concepts and techniques in R and want to level up? Social Media Platforms for Researchers When: 28 October 2021, 10:30am - 11:30am There is a huge range of social media platforms and other online sites that researchers can use to tell their research stories. In this seminar, we will take a look at many different social media platforms and how a researcher can best use each one within their communications network. We also cover several sites that will take content (blogs, podcasts and videos) from researchers and distribute them to large audiences. Register here. The Emotionally Intelligent (EI) Researcher When: 2 November 2021, 10:00am - 11:00am Experience difficulties in your relationship with your supervisor and other people? Do you know how to use emotional intelligence to improve your communication and relationships? Working with your Supervisor (ECMS) When: 4 November 2021, 10:00am - 12:00pm The relationship you have with your supervisor is crucial in determining your PhD experience. They are your primary source of guidance as you undertake an individual research project and even the best student/supervisor relationships can experience periods of strain through the ups and downs of research. In this workshop you will learn what you can do to establish a positive working relationship with your supervisor and ultimately get the most out of your HDR experience. Register here. Planning your Next Career Steps When: 8 November 2021, 2:00pm - 4:00pm How do you plan and prepare for your next career steps after finishing your PhD? And how do you decide which career path is right for you - academia, government, industry or some other pathway? This interactive workshop will give you tools and strategies for tackling these questions based on your own interests, strengths and preferences. If you are unsure about preparing for life after the PhD, this event will help you start sharpening your focus and building the confidence to pursue a path best suited to your skills and priorities. Appropriate Citation and Avoiding Plagiarism When: 9 November 2021, 3:00pm - 5:00pm This session presents different types of in test and end of test citations. It explains how these aspects of research writing give credibility to a project. Further, by following the necessary protocols of research, writing citations assist in the avoidance of plagiarism. Learn to Program: Python When: 9-10 November 2021, 9:30am - 12:30pm Python has deservedly become a popular language for scientific computing, but getting started can be challenging, especially if you have never programmed before.
