Giving Our Fundraisers A Spotlight

Our Community Rises To The Challenge

We are constantly in awe of our community and the lengths they'll go to in order to support us.

Some choose physical challenges, some choose celebratory events, some choose to put their skill set to use. Each of them do it with The Nightingale and our clients in mind.

We want give our fundraisers a spotlight!

Read about some of the amazing people in The Nightingale community.

The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc

Andy took on the biggest challenge anyone has faced for The Nightingale; The Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc, a 170km ultramarathon through the mountains of France, Italy, and Switzerland.

This was Andy's 'bucket list' race but wanted to share it with The Nightingale.

"I know firsthand how tough it gets out there and knowing I’m raising money for the Nightingale will help to keep me moving when things do inevitably get tough."

Andy triumphed through cold weather and incredibly steep inclines to complete the race in 44 hours and raise £1,586!

Lesley's Fitness Christmas

Long time supporter Lesley Mitchell Fitness regularly hosts special fitness classes to raise money for her community.

Getting ready for the festive season,  Lesley is holding a festive workout plus brunch for her class attendees in aid of The Nightingale this December.

She's spreading the Christmas spirit to her class through fitness, food and fundraising!

Vicky's Trip to Brighton

"My world was turned upside down when I was told I had cancer. I am now, thankfully, cancer free and finding my way along the path of recovery. It is on this path that I found myself contacting The Nightingale and learnt about the many different types of support they offer.

Recovery, for me, is not just about being told I was cancer free, it’s about learning to live with this new post cancer life.

Last year (before my diagnosis) I completed the London-Essex bike ride and after completing that I decided to do the London to Brighton bike ride. So I set off again, preparing for another bike ride.

The weather thankfully held off and I finished in 6 hours 20 mins with a few stops along the way for refreshments/ breaks so a total of 5.5 hours of actual cycling time! It was a really great experience: the really friendly people and amazing views almost made the hills worthwhile.

Someone came up to me after I'd finished to say thank you because someone close to them was being supported by The Nightingale and they were very grateful for all that support!"

Running The London Marathon For A Soul Mate

"Losing my husband Phil has been heartbreakingly painful. He was brave, kind and loving; we are soulmates.

I had secured a place in the London Marathon but overwhelming grief firmly put a stop to me running and I considered deferring my place.

Then 8 weeks before the marathon I thought to myself, 'What would Phil do?'

Phil would certainly never give up! So, I picked up my running shoes and decided I would walk, jog or even crawl my way through the marathon in honour of the bravest and most courageous man I'd even known; my soulmate."

Luckily, there was no crawling involved and Catherine went on to complete The London Marathon and raise £3,622, far exceeding her initial target of £1,000!

Social Pilates House - 1st Birthday

In July, Social Pilates House celebrated their 1st Birthday with a Summer Soiree.

The day included a DJ set, curated platters, drinks, goody bags and prize giveaways.

As part of giving back to their amazing community, they donated 100% of the proceeds from their celebration to local charities they deeply cared about. The Nightingale being one of them!

This is such a small selection of our fundraisers!

We have hundreds of people supporting us throughout the year in various ways, groups like the Rotary Club, pubs like The Wonder, hairdressers like Hudson & Kemp and so many more businesses and individuals.

As a charity, we do not receive any government funding.

This means that we rely on generous supporters like Andy, Lesley, Vicky, Catherine, Social Pilates House and you to continue to deliver our services and we're forever grateful!

If you want to celebrate you birthday with us, take on the challenge of a lifetime or get your group to come together for their community, give fundraising a go below.
