Alexus Brown

Student Spotlight: Alexus Brown

I am passionate about advancing my skills in the field of Linguistics and that begins with being taught and teaching others to perform digital scholarship and utilize digital methodologies properly.”

Before collaborating with Dr. Dan Villareal on a curriculum development module, Alexus Brown (Linguistics) had minimal teaching experience. Read her reflections to learn how she gained new pedagogical skills and created an abbreviated guide for the hands-on teaching of a transcription program that could be used in future iterations of the class.

Director's Tip of the Month

Leonard Cassuto and Robert Weisbuch encourage all of us in higher education to consider the value of public scholarship: “communicating scholarly expertise to a nonexpert public to initiate interest and understanding.” To achieve this, we develop a sort of “bilingualism” in which we translate our scholarly work for a broader audience.

Humanities Engage offers several types of summer funding to help humanities doctoral students hone their public scholarship bilingualism, while exploring ways you might use your academic capabilities in a variety of sectors to promote causes you are passionate about or to consider the diversity of your future career options.

This month’s tip is simple: make an appointment with me to explore your summer funding options! In the meantime, read about our funding awardees’ projects or listen to them talking about their experiences in our programming archive:
