April Fool's Day is an annual custom on 1 April consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes. Jokesters often expose their actions by shouting "April Fools!" at the recipient. Mass media have been known to be involved in pranks, which may be revealed as such the following day.
You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of
the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

Glendowie Bowls
24 March 2022
Last Thursday our Open Triples was graced with a couple of celebrity guests!
David Ball and Leif Selby from Auckland Bowls joined up with a couple of Glendowie teams, then led the charge in blustery conditions on the Glendowie grass. There were fine displays (including bowling) from many players, despite the weather being somewhat inconsiderate at times. After some tight competition from the five clubs represented, in the end, the winning prize was presented to the deserving Glendowie All-Stars combination of David Ball, Rod College and Peter Anderson who went four out of four wins for the day. Thanks as always to all who toiled behind the scenes and to our valued tournament sponsor Edmund Hillary Retirement Village whose
continued support of Glendowie Bowling Club is very much appreciated.

Winners - The winning combo! David Ball (GM, Auckland Bowls), Rod College (Glendowie), Peter Anderson (Glendowie) with Becky Gillanders from Edmund Hillary Retirement Village and tournament organiser Mike “MC” Hughes.

Henderson Bowls
29 March 2022
We were blessed with a clear blue sky for our Ozich Open Triples tournament, held to celebrate the proud heritage of Henderson Bowling Club. Steve Ozich was a founding member of our club and we look forward to holding a tournament in his name each year. This tournament represents the best of bowls by bringing clubs together to enjoy the spirit of our game. We celebrate where we come from, and acknowledge the importance of building strong links in our community as represented by our valued sponsors Laura Heynen of Bayleys Northwest and Tony Grieg, grandson of Steve Ozich, of Muzza’s Automotive Pumps. With visitors and home-based teams joining together to enjoy the competition it was the Blockhouse Bay team of Ken, Ian and Patch who took out the first prize - our congratulations go out to them and thanks for taking part in our big day.

Brian Feng, a student at Kings College, organised a community service event at Remuera Bowling Club this month. Around 20 students participated in a ‘working bee’ in which they cleared weeds, tidied gardens and helped get the surroundings ship shape. Brian is the grandson of a club member. He enjoyed coordinating this opportunity not only to spend time with friends outside of school but also to contribute to the community. Students earned credits toward their Duke of Edinburgh Award status. Students and their families are often challenged to tick off the Award requirements – most credit requirements need to be achieved outside of school hours and off school grounds. We hope they might be back to tackle some indoor projects soon! It’s great to see students rolling up their sleeves at our clubs for the Duke of Edinburgh. Some get rolling on the greens, too! Kohimarama Bowls
29 March 2022
Our friends from St Heliers Bowling Club took the top spot at Tuesday Open Triples on 29 March. We expected nothing less from St Heliers winning team - SHBC Club President and Auckland Women's Rep, Sue Curran; Auckland 1-5 Year Rep Linda Fenton and SHBC Secretary and serial title & gold star winner; Paula Kempthorne. There are so many wonderful elements to club weeklies around Auckland: camaraderie, laughs, tasty nibbles, amazing cash and take-home prizes (thank you, New World Stonefields for Kohi’s beautiful butchery
packs) and not to forget the bowlers competing and learning from some top tier players. We are too familiar with the phrase "due to Covid" and St Andrew's Village Manager Judy Armour was absent today, unfortunately "due to Covid". Judy sent her regards and an update from St Andrews. Here's hoping Kohi will deliver two more stunning Tuesdays to complete the summer season.

Don’t miss out on the upcoming Open Triples at Remuera – this Thursday, 7 April.
