IDCRC New Investigator Pilot Award Recipients Named The award funds research projects and career development activities that enhance early stage investigators' ability to compete successfully for an independent R- or K-series award. Research projects address a variety of topics, including vaccinology, therapeutics, laboratory studies, and statistics. Congratulations to: Jayaum Booth, PhD Project Title: Human intestinal TRM: Distinct cross-reactive responses against enteric pathogens Stephanie Rolsma, MD IDCRC Admin Team Transition It is with mixed emotions that we announce the resignation of Kayla Smith, effective November 10, 2021. Kayla is relocating to be closer to family and will join Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist as Program Manager III, Health Care Education. Since Kayla joined the IDCRC Leadership Group in 2020, she has been a valuable and well-respected member of our team. She has worked across the IDCRC Leadership Group – from managing the Clinical Operations Unit’s operations and helping launch the very successful IDCRC Mentoring and Career Development KFC, including the Pilot Grants Program, to providing key communications support. As an employee of Emory University, she is greatly valued and respected by her co-workers. The work and contributions that she has made, including extended hours of dedication, are greatly appreciated. We will miss Kayla. We wish her joy and success in all her future endeavors. TrainingMentee Profile: Karen Lorena Carvajal Vasquez, MD Dr. Carvajal recently completed the infectious diseases fellow program at the University of Rochester. She went to medical school at the Latin American School of Medicine and completed residency at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Her hometown is Santiago, Chile. She is currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in public health and is working on a research project related to the presence of COVID in nursing homes in Monroe County.
