Bridge Park receives Avondale Fund’s first grantIn March 2024, we announced the establishment of the Avondale Fund Committee and the opening of applications! The Avondale Fund provides financial support under three distinct categories, helping eligible clubs with projects like covered greens, facility enhancements, and overall club development. Avondale Fund Committee member, Marion Hakaraia commented, "The Committee has been formed to support initiatives that make an impact on our community, and we're pleased to announce that Bridge Park is the first to receive a grant from the Fund. They've been awarded funds to upgrade their facilities, specifically for much-needed repairs to the clubroom roof." Bridge Park’s Hawkeye went on to say, “We are grateful and proud to be the first recipient of a grant from the Avondale Fund. The pavilion roof had passed its best-before date and had begun allowing rain to enter! A fortunate spell of relatively fine weather permitted the contractors to complete the job within a week.” Congratulations to Bridge Park! We look forward to seeing the positive impact these improvements will have on their club and the wider community. Auckland U26 put to the test at National Five a SideThe 2024 Nulook National Under 26 Five a Side was completed last weekend in Wellington, with host Bowls Wellington topping the table and taking the title after a brilliant final against Bowls Canterbury. Bowls Auckland Head Selector Alison Rennie commented, "This tournament was a great opportunity for our U26s to gain invaluable experience and the standard of competition throughout was excellent. While the overall result may not have been where we had hoped, the team exuded camaraderie with each player soaking up the challenge." Alison went on to say, "Our squad showcased determination and skill. Liam Hill was a stand-out in the Singles showing player maturity beyond his youthful age. Hannah Dawson and Adam Baillie also excelled in the invitational composite side." Special thanks go to team manager Peter Blucher for his support throughout the tournament. We also extend our thanks to Bowls Wellington for hosting a well-organised and competitive event. This experience will undoubtedly strengthen our team's resilience and prepare them for future competitions. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success. Matariki Fours shining bright-- Robyn Reihana Te Atatu Peninsula and Hobsonville Bowling Clubs celebrated Matariki 2024 with a bang at their Open Fours Tournament! The demand for this popular event was clear from the start, as entries filled up in no time! Teams from Pringle Park, Point Chev, Royal Oak, Pakuranga, Takapuna, Homai, Hobsonville, Taranaki, and Riverhead were among the final 32 teams securing their spots and battling it out on the green. Matariki is all about renewal, reflection, and connecting with both the past and future. It's a special time to gather with loved ones, share stories, enjoy some kai... and, of course, play bowls. And that's exactly what we did! Congratulations to the 2024 champions: Tony Garelja, Sean Hird, Danny Delany, and Billy Fulton. Great job, team!
