Quarterly E-News for Health Professionals

Welcome to the Summer 2025 edition of our quarterly newsletter.  Information and resources to assist health professionals to address smoking and vaping among their patients.

Thank you for your referrals

Thank you for your referrals to Quit Tasmania's FREE Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) Program. To date, our Quitline counsellors have sent out free NRT products, including  patches, gum and lozenges, to 60 people of all ages who smoke or vape and are wanting to quit.

We received lovely feedback from a young client who is encouraging his mates to contact Quitline: 'I tell them it's helped me.  It could help you'.  Others have told us that receiving free NRT has been 'such a help' as the cost of the products has previously been a barrier to them making a quit attempt.

Available to those who are:

  • Youth (12-25 years)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • Pregnant and/or their partner

We welcome and value your referrals.

This project is funded by the Crown through the Department of Health

'It's Good to Know' campaign

The new It's Good to Know campaign has been launched by the Australian government to raise awareness of, and encourage participation in, the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP).

This is an equity-first campaign aiming to increase awareness of the program within the eligible audience with a focus on priority  communities who are disproportionately affected by lung cancer, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, LGBTQ+ communities, multicultural communities and people that live in rural and remote areas.

Quitline Tasmania welcomes referrals to our service for people who are eligible for the NLCSP:

  • are aged 50 t0 70 and
  • smoke tobacco cigarettes or have quit in the last 10 years, and
  • have no symptoms of lung cancer and
  • have a smoking history of 30 pack-years or more
