Last year, PIDC continued to drive growth to every corner of Philadelphia—closing 3,445 transactions with a diverse range of clients in 100% of the city’s zip codes, including $589.4M of financing, 23.4 acres of land sales, and $41.8M in COVID-19 relief grants and loans. This November, PIDC will kick off an eight month series of workshops in Spanish as part of its strategy to assist Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs, one of the fastest growing business groups in Philadelphia. PIDC is partnering with Balance Consulting Group LLC, a Hispanic-owned practice, to offer free critical business education presented by subject matter experts on building credit, establishing accounting systems, budgeting, City resources, buying and financing commercial real estate, leadership, and more in Spanish. PIDC and University City District’s West Philadelphia Skills Initiative is thrilled to announce that we graduated and placed 14 program participants from our second Navy Yard Workforce Development Initiatives training program! These participants completed the three-week Shipyard Laborer Program in partnership with PIDC client Philly Shipyard Inc. and 13 were extended a job offer for full-time permanent employment in the government and commercial shipbuilding industry starting at $14/hour.

Earlier this month, PIDC partnered with SEPTA, various City departments, and community groups to host a clean-up day for the Grays Avenue Corridor in Southwest Philadelphia. The corridor is the site of a year-long Complete Streets Concepts & Design Project (Complete Streets Project) led by SEPTA and supported by funding from a Helping Obtain Prosperity for Everyone (HOPE) Grant and PIDC.

Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: IOVA), a late-stage biotechnology company developing novel T cell-based cancer immunotherapies (tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte, TIL, and peripheral-blood lymphocyte, PBL), is celebrating the official opening of the Iovance Cell Therapy Center (iCTC). The iCTC, located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, is the first centralized, scalable, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility dedicated to producing TIL cell therapies for patients with solid tumor cancers.

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) is open now through November 1. The RACP program offers matching grants, generally ranging from $500K to $5M,  funded by the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of economic development, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. This is for new 2021 applications only. If you previously applied in March 2021, your application is still under consideration and there is no need to apply again.
