September Newsletter No images? Click here Inform. Inspire. Connect.A message to our DPMR community- As you are reading this, a fire battle is raging around us with the Caldor Fire, the Dixie Fire, the Tamarack Fire and more throughout our area. These fires are only partially contained and the threat of more continues daily. It's no secret that things are a bit rough in the Truckee-Tahoe area these days. Our lives have been disrupted, members have evacuated their homes, the smoke and air quality are unhealthy and our local forests are closed. Physically and emotionally we are taxed. And yet the stories of the heroes in our community are not hard to find. There are the firefighters, law enforcement personnel and land managers who are putting their lives on the line day and night to save homes, animals and people. And friends like our very own Jenelle Potvin who immediately created a database for connecting those from South Lake Tahoe who have evacuated their homes with those that can help house them. This is an astonishing act of kindness... but if you know Jenelle it comes as no surprise. Jenelle has served as a DPMR Board Member and has produced and curated the monthly DPMR newsletter since 2014. For 7 years the newsletter has served to "inform, inspire and connect" our running community. And not once in those 7 years has it ever been delivered late to your inbox. Until now. So enjoy the read. But more importantly, remember to reach out to those in our community and beyond that need our help right now. Helping others is our own first step to healing. Stay safe everyone. I stumbled on the Castle Peak 100K website while looking for spring/summer ultras in California. I thought it was an auspicious sign when I saw the event was being held on my birthday and I signed up without hesitation. Then I read the race description. Then I panicked.
