To guide future development, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) adopted a new Airport Master Plan in 2022. Consistent with this plan, the Airport is modernizing and redeveloping the northeast area of the airfield into a modern aviation center. We are working with a consultant on an overall development plan to maximize the use of available land. This involves performing site investigation and due diligence along with determining development and infrastructure requirements.
As this significant planning effort continues, one large new hangar has already been completed, and is prompting additional interest in construction of similarly-size hangars.
The Airport is obligated to achieve the highest and best use of this property. As leases expire and older hangars that have exceeded their useful life are removed to allow more efficient use of limited airport land, MKE continues to offer multiple FBO options capable of accommodating single‑engine aircraft currently stored in individual hangars. Timmerman Airport is another great option for Milwaukee-based GA pilots.
As we continue to make progress on the design for the rest of this area, look for future updates here in the 414 Flyer e-newsletter.
