News from the House.... No images? Click here Karinya News - June 2022Dear Friends of KarinyaOoh baby.. it is cold outside... Quite chilly outdoors as the editor writes to welcome you to winter in the Canberra Region! The recent days have been a tad cold with significant wind chill factors and the crisp blue of the winter sky somewhat shadowed by the clouds. We enter the last month of the current financial year with gratitude, following the wonderful support of our annual "Days of May" appeal, and your support throughout all of 2021/2022. As always outstanding! Thank you. As of today, we remain around $55,000 short of this year's annual donor/fundraising target. Many of you do choose to only donate in June, to your favourite charity/ies of choice. If this is you, please do consider warming our hearts by donating your EOFY contribution to support for women we walk alongside here at Karinya. The link is below. We do hope this eNewsletter finds you snug and warm. Give thanks and stay safe as the winter chills take hold. Enjoy the times of winter sun and those fresh, crisp days of our region. National Reconciliation Week - An opportunity to Corporates or New DonorsAs we share this eNewsletter with you today, 3 June, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mabo Day, at the close of the 2022 National Reconciliation Week. As we acknowledge, with respect, the inspiring Indigenous heritage and culture of our Nation, we take the time to reflect, time we should take every day, on how we can respond to the call to “Be Brave. Make Change.” and seek to ensure a lasting reconciliation with new learning and knowledge building from our true origins. Coincidentally perhaps, we are currently seeking NEW corporate partners to join with us to co-fund a very important project here at Karinya. In our next eNewsletter, we will be introducing you to Kate Williams. Kate comes to Karinya as a Senior Aboriginal Case Manager, bringing over 35 years’ experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities. Kate is a proud Kamilaroi woman who is a culturally connected Aboriginal worker and describes herself as having “a life-time experience as a ground roots Aboriginal woman…. I am solid in my identity, my bloodlines and connection to community and country.” Watch this space for more information about Kate next month. This position is funded in part by the Calleo Indigenous Community Fund. We are seeking new Corporate Partners or new Major Donors, to join with us to co-fund this very important role, which will enrich the practice of care provided by the Karinya Care team. Make a pledge for the 2022/23 Financial Year, and for three to five years, of any amount from $2,000 per annum or more. Walk alongside women with us. If you would like to find out more about this project please contact us. The Snow Foundation - Celebrating 30 YearsWe acknowledge and celebrate The Snow Foundation who this week took the time to celebrate and reflect on the Foundation's establishment in 1991 and the work of the Foundation for over 30 years since. To date the Foundation has assisted over 400 organisations and over 420 individuals with over $46 million in giving. The breadth of the work of The Snow Foundation is so significant in its contribution to Australia, as a Nation. The depth of the work and the values behind the four pillars to which the Foundation aspires to build through all the philanthropic endeavours, speak to the values we hold dear hear at Karinya House. We congratulate The Snow Foundation. Karinya House remains grateful to be counted among one of the organisations to be supported from “The Early Years”. The support of The Snow Foundation has impacted the individual lives of women (and their children) for so many years since then. What a difference the Foundation has made and continues to make. 🙌🙌 Snippets....We are continuing to share with you the quotes from women interviewed as part of the Erin Journey Map project, as outlined in our previous eNewsletters. In discussion with a number of women we documented their journey. We thank each and every woman we walk alongside for allowing us to share their path for a while. We have mapped the journey across 6 stages: Help, Find, Trust, Commit, Experience, Transition. In the Commit and Experience stages, comments included: "I'd had traumatic experiences, so stepping into this new environment was a big risk." "I realised it was a way forward which was positive and ongoing." "Initially, I didn't want to let my guard down to anyone, but whoever I got close to they stepped forward to support me." "It was great to connect to other women, and not feel so alone. We all had different opinions, but we learnt from each other, in a respectful way." "There was this sense of confidence that things will get sorted out." #humansofkarinya #ourvillage #supportingwomen #walkingalongside #erinsjourney 💜🌸 *Erin is not one woman.
