AFA recently developed a cartoner to handle WIP totes of cartridges. The cartoner picked cartridges from the WIP tote via a gantry robot and placed them onto an infeed conveyor. Based on the SKU, the cartridges are then oriented in the correct pack pattern and cartoned at 150 products per minute (ppm). The system handles three unique pack patterns, providing the co-packer with optimal flexibility. All operations on the machine are fully automatic, with the operator only having to refill the carton magazine and feed WIP totes into the system.
Product Retrofit: AF-RBX - Rebuild of an end load case packer
AFA's machine rebuild program can help end users and integrators reduce costs on their capital investments. AFA rebuilt an end-load case packer for this project to run filters at 7 cases per minute. A new infeed system was designed to ensure the filters were accurately collated and loaded into an RSC case. Furthermore, the case packer was modified to handle irregularly shaped cases (24.75" x 24.75" x 5.75") that are difficult to handle on standard case packers. Nordson Problue melters and Allen Bradley controls are standard on these systems.

AFA Systems completed a retrofit on a combination case packer/palletizer to increase the system's overall speed. The retrofit allowed the combination case packer/palletizer to handle two roll winding systems, reducing the customer's overall line floor space. In addition, two (2) roll winding systems double the customer's line throughput on a single case packer/palletizer. AFA added a flighted indexing conveyor to improve speed and better control the product during loading. Retrofits are a great way to improve existing equipment and save capital dollars.
