If you have not done so already, please talk to your supervisor and plan for their potential holidays and the University’s Christmas closure (24th December to 2nd January). The Grad School will also close 1pm on the 23rd December and reopen 10am on the 3rd January. During that time theses can be submitted online and the team will attend to them once they return in January. If you want your thesis to be sent out to examiners before the closure, you will need to submit your thesis by 16th December the very latest. Information Technology and Digital Services are switching off their helpdesk email address servicedesk@adelaide.edu.au and the MyUni Support via myunisupport@adelaide.edu.au on the 14th December. IT service requests will then be managed via a cloud-based portal called MyIT I would like to remind you that the Dean of Graduate Studies, Professor Carolin Plewa, holds an informal weekly consultation hour Wednesday, 9am to 10am where you can discuss ideas you may have or talk about concerns or challenges you face. These sessions are completely confidential and can be face-to-face or virtual. Please send a prior email to dean.gradstudies@adelaide.edu.au. Best wishes, Doreen Doreen Krumbiegel Tip of the Month With the world slowing down over the next couple of weeks, please remember that as an HDR student, you can take up to 20 working days of annual leave per year. 2022 has been another challenging year - we all need time to relax and recharge! iThenticate - now available to all HDR students and supervisors The AGRS is pleased to advise that iThenticate is now available for use by all HDR students and supervisors. iThenticate is a text matching software tool, that will compare documents you submit to an extensive database of web pages and scholarly content, and produce a similarity score and report. This assists you to review your work, check for originality and ensure you have cited non-original work appropriately. For researchers, iThenticate is recommended over Turnitin. Both systems compare submissions with internet pages, however where Turnitin also provides a comparison with a global catalogue of previously submitted student assignments, iThenticate checks submissions against scholarly works including theses and journals. Use iThenticate to check the originality of work including literature reviews, draft publications and thesis drafts to avoid instances of plagiarism and copyright concerns and to ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements around academic and research integrity. For further information and to activate your license, visit: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduate-research/current-students/ithenticate Unique Student Identifier (USI) A Unique Student Identifier [USI] is a reference number that creates an online record of your qualifications attained in Australia. All students need a USI to receive a qualification upon successful completion from 2023. To create your USI, please visit the Australian Government’s website. The personal details you provide here must be exactly the same as those on record at the University of Adelaide. Once created, log into Access Adelaide and enter your USI in the Statistical Section page, under the ‘Students’ menu. Please contact Ask Adelaide if you require assistance. For international and offshore students, further information is available here; offshore international students are not required to provide a USI. Why is it important to declare a research conflict of interest? If there is a perception of a conflict the integrity of the researcher or the practices of the University can be called into question, which could undermine trust in our research and ability to source funding. When writing grant applications and publications or having PDR discussions, it is important to be alert to matters that may constitute a conflict. To find out more see the NHMRC/ARC/UA Guide and the University’s Conflict of Interest Procedure. Neurodiversity in HDR research and supervision practice: Survey for supervisors HREC approval H-2022-181; CI: Anna Szorenyi anna.szorenyi@adelaide.edu.au Are you a registered Principal or Co-supervisor at the University of Adelaide? We want to know about your understanding of the concept of ‘neurodivergence’ (eg: autism, ADHD, dyslexia), and your experience in supervising the increasing number of HDR students living with these conditions. There is very little research on this topic, and we’d like to know more about whether it’s important to supervisors, and what training or support might help you to feel better prepared. This online survey is completely anonymous and entirely optional. We expect it to take about 12 minutes of your time (unless you have a lot to say).
