New Video Case Study Highlights Innovation in Community Building and Refugee Housing

Refugee Housing Solutions and Refugee Welcome Collective collaborated with World Learning and its School for International Training to create a video case study highlighting World Learning’s approach to welcoming Afghan newcomers during the Afghan Placement and Assistance Program (APA) in fall 2021.

World Learning, along with the Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC), the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, and other community members, welcomed around 100 Afghan newcomers to its School for International Training (SIT) campus in Brattleboro, VT.

The campus provided housing and became the center of the Afghan community for newcomers, also offering education opportunities. Other community members provided support with English learning programs, orientation to Brattleboro and important services like supermarkets, employment assistance, and additional integration support as newcomers started to build new lives.

This approach to welcoming refugee newcomers serves as a model of welcome that’s innovative in addressing housing challenges and proactive in engaging an entire community in providing key support.
