What it’s like to work on the frontline at Corrections isn’t always well understood - as our staff have been known to say, it’s not like the movies! We work in a complex environment that can be quite different to other settings, with its own challenges and rewards.
In this issue of Tiritiri, we’re sharing stories that help to give some insight into what it’s like working in a prison environment. Supporting community work as a probation officer
Probation Officer Robb works specifically with people on community work, helping them to use their time on sentence in a beneficial way.
Tikanga Māori motivational programme brings benefits for participants and staff
The programme, which is provided externally, helps participants build cultural identity, through connection to four kaupapa: Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Rangatiratanga and Wairuatanga. Contract managers Nero and Conan share their observations on the positive impacts of the programme for both participants and staff.
