Fostering Equitable Planning and Development

Gowanus

Brooklyn, NY

Last week, JLP+D participated in the Gowanus Precinct Study - a timely event hosted by the Urban Design Forum to explore recent progress and lessons learned from the neighborhood’s recent rezoning.

Along with New York City Comptroller Brad Lander and Gowanus Houses (NYCHA) Resident Association President Andreas Tyre, JLP+D Principal Ben Margolis shared lessons from decades of community planning and the essential work of the Gowanus Oversight Task Force. JLP+D is proud to be serving as the task force's facilitator and liaison with 13 City agencies proactively working with 30 community volunteers to implement $450 million in investments. The audience also heard from leaders such as Dan Garodnick, Michelle de la Uz, and more champions of community development and the public realm such as Andrea Parker of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Susannah Drake of Sasaki, and many more.

If you are in the New York area, please consider attending the next Task Force public meeting on September 28th. You can learn more and register here.

Guiding Equitable Growth for Downtown St. Paul

Downtown Investment Strategy

St. Paul, MN

On behalf of the Saint Paul Downtown Alliance, in partnership with the City of Saint Paul and private and public stakeholders, JLP+D is leading the development of a Downtown Investment Strategy for Downtown Saint Paul.

With support from our project partners Perkins&Will and NEOO Partners Inc., the JLP+D team is drawing upon local and national downtown expertise to set a bold vision for the future vitality, livability, and resilience of Downtown Saint Paul. Our recommendations will guide strategic and catalytic investments that will facilitate new growth toward the Alliance’s goal of tripling the number of people living Downtown from 10,000 to 30,000 residents; adding 20,000 new workers; and increasing the number of visitors by 20%.
