The first step towards a standardised framework for the maritime industry The IMEF Initiative is a pioneering effort to establish a unified standard for calculating and reporting emissions in the maritime industry. With the backing of leading companies and experts, this initiative focuses on a robust activity-based approach to measure Scope 3 emissions, which are often the hardest to quantify but make up a large portion of a company’s overall carbon footprint. The IMEF Initiative provides a clear guidance paper on how maritime stakeholders can calculate the Product Carbon Footprint of their components and equipment, helping companies make more informed, sustainable decisions. The IMEF Goals • Establish a baseline for Scope 3 emissions measurement across the maritime industry. Why Support the IMEF Initiative • Align with a robust sustainability standard that is gaining widespread industry support. Take Action: Open to ship-owners, ship-managers, as well as maritime suppliers and manufacturers, the IMEF Initiative needs all hands on deck. "This initiative represents a first step towards a standardized framework for the maritime industry. In its initial edition, the guideline adopts a basic format intentionally crafted to provide a starting point. As we advance, we will work towards a more comprehensive framework that aligns with global standards and regional initiatives. As always, we need all hands on deck from the get-go, so please do join us if you feel this is something your company should support."
