TEA Construction

Project Completion in Pine Ridge, South Dakota

In an effort to assert more control over increasing energy costs, Oglala Lakota Housing Authority (OLHA) collaborated with  Tribal Energy Alternatives (TEA)  to install a  100 kW-DC ground mount system at the Cohen Memorial Home, an assisted living facility, and 10 residential projects totaling 80 kW-DC. All projects were located within the tribal land of the Pine Ridge Reservation, Oglala Lakota territory. The systems provide economic and environmental benefits to OLHA, as well as directly to Tribal Members, and provide a platform for increased energy production and job creation.  OLHA identified 4 interested Tribal members to participate in the paid training portion of the installation, and all trainees participated in the installation of the project, and completed CPR/1st Aid certifications, as well as OSHA 10!

Pueblo of Santa Ana - Tamaya Wellness Center

Tribal Energy Alternatives' Construction Team partnered with the Pueblo of Santa Ana to advance the community's clean energy and sustainability goals through the installation of a 342-kilowatt solar energy system at the Tamaya Wellness Center. The project provides reliable, renewable electricity that helps reduce energy costs while supporting a vital community facility that offers recreation, wellness, and cultural services. Beyond delivering clean energy, the project strengthened local workforce capacity by providing hands-on training opportunities and supporting the Pueblo's long-term investment in energy sovereignty and resilience. This installation represents an important step toward the Pueblo's goal of achieving a net-zero Wellness Center by 2032.

What should funders know about TEA's work?

The renewable energy future across Indian Country is dependent on Tribal-led renewable energy organizations like TEA. We bring equitable access to philanthropic funding, we are deeply rooted in cultural values and our staff come from the tribal communities we serve, and we understand how to partner with tribes in unfavorable and favorable renewable energy states. TEA recognizes that sustaining impact requires evolving how we lead, from being a hands-on builder and problem solver to becoming a strategic systems tribal affiliate of GRID Alternatives who can guide long-term transformation in the clean energy ecosystem.
