Director's Message

 

Welcome to all newly enrolled research students to The University of Adelaide. The Adelaide Graduate Research School (AGRS) Newsletter gets published every month and contains important information for you including announcements of scholarship and internship opportunities, travel grant rounds, relevant events and networking opportunities as well as celebrations of HDR achievements.

The biggest achievement that can be reached during your research degree is receiving a University Doctoral Research Medal or a Masters by Research Medal. I would like to congratulate all medal winners for 2023 listed below for their outstanding accomplishment. 

 
 

Please note below the opening of the Adelaide Graduate Research School Travel Grants round in April. Once open, applications can be submitted via the Career’s Hub page. For travel later in the year, a second travel grant round will open at the end of August and again announced in the Newsletter.

Tip of the Month

Have you thought about undertaking a funded research internship? If you secure an agreement within the first 18 months of your PhD you are able to complete an internship at any agreed-upon time within the duration of your candidature. You'll receive an additional 3-month scholarship, the internship will be reflected on your transcript, and you'll gain industry and business experience giving you the edge with your future career. Preparing for your PhD oral examination

Are you curious about the requirements of the PhD oral examination process? If you are required to undertake an oral examination or considering opting in, you may be interested to know that a new MyUni course is available to help you prepare. The course will take you about an hour to complete, and provides an overview of the process, roles and responsibilities, and tips for preparing well. You can also record the course for 1 credit in Domain D for CaRST. Enrol here.

 
 

AGRS Travel Grants

 

The Adelaide Graduate Research School is offering Travel Grants again! The first round for 2024 will open on the 1st of April and close on the 26th of April for HDR students travelling from early May in 2024. Once open, applications can be submitted via the Career’s Hub page.

Please carefully read the eligibility criteria and travel grant rules available on the Find a Scholarship page before applying. With the limited budget available, you are also highly encouraged to apply for other travel grant opportunities to fund your travel.

    The Adelaide Graduate Research School takes great pleasure in congratulating the 15 recipients of the University Doctoral Research Medal and 2 recipients of the Masters by Research Medal for 2023.     New and Improved “UofA Guest” Network Now Live

     

    The “UofA Guest” WiFi network has been upgraded as part of our network modernisation work. This now allows for a simpler and quicker self-registration process and provides an improved internet connection on campus. More information and support.

     
     

    Postgraduate Scholarship Opportunities

    The Adelaide Graduate Research School maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process.

    AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE) Research Internship Program

    The Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) and The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) are currently accepting applications for the Scholarship AINSE ANSTO French Embassies (SAAFE) Research Internship Program.     Upcoming Library workshops for researchers

    All workshops are delivered via Zoom by the Liaison Librarians.

    • 21 March, 11am: Understanding Predatory Publishing. This workshop will help you to understand how to assess a journal or conference to identify whether it is legitimate, or might be predatory. Register here.
    • 25 March, 10am: Introduction to searching for systematic reviews (Health and Medical Sciences). Are you starting a systematic review? Do you need help with selecting databases and building your search strategies? Join us for an overview of the systematic review process, focusing on the literature searching component of your review.     Whether for study, teaching, research or publishing, the new University Copyright Advice site highlights the key practices and compliance measures to consider for your next project. The site covers copyright basics as well as more specific applications such as study exceptions, copyright clearances for theses and journal articles, and how to avoid infringement when preparing learning materials, among others.     Consent and Respectful Relationships module

    The University of Adelaide is committed to maintaining and strengthening a culture and environment that allows students and staff to thrive; an environment in which individuals feel respected, safe, valued, and welcome. Consent and Respectful Relationships is a mandatory module for all undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of this commitment.     Free and confidential Disability Service

    As a Postgraduate Student you are also eligible for assistance from the Disability Service if you have a disability or ongoing medical condition. Information about the nature of your disability is not disclosed – information obtained from you about the functional impact of the disability is shared with academic staff solely for the purpose of assisting you with your studies. Details relating to the Disability Service and the on line registration process can be found on the Disability website.
