As we come into the traditional busy season in Pharmacy, the Council has also continued to remain busy with an ever increasing number of notifications. We have noticed a number of complaints recently that highlight customers’ perceptions and expectations of communication and professional service in a Pharmacy.

Changes to ownership applications approvals process
Early in 2020 there will be a number of significant changes to the pharmacy ownership approval process.
These changes relate to lodgement dates and new requirements for premises plans.
Do you compound for other pharmacies?
Are you a compounding pharmacy who compounds for other stores in your banner group? Or provide compounded medication to other colleagues who do not offer a compounding service at their store but provide a “referral “service?

Recent Prosecutions - Reminders to Pharmacists
Readers may be aware of the outcome of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency’s (AHPRA’s) prosecutions of individuals who were working as pharmacists whilst unregistered and the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC’s) prosecution of a pharmacist proprietor at the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT). The outcome of each prosecution serves as timely reminders to pharmacists and pharmacist proprietors of their professional obligations.
Message from the Ministry of Health - Forged prescriptions
The NSW Ministry of Health is reminding pharmacists that it is illegal to dispense a prescription that appears to have been forged or fraudulently obtained, or if the prescription appears to have been altered otherwise than by the authorised practitioner by whom it was issued.
