Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends,

In several of the Grade 7-11 classes today we shared information about the Powerful Youth leadership programs running at Brookes this summer (see here).

If your child is interested in attending the program  we currently have 12 spots in Session 1 (July 3 – 16) and 4 spots in Session 2 (July 17-30).

The price for the two week program is $1730 CAD. This fee includes all costs during the program including room, board, activities, excursions, transportation and of course supervision and delivery of our award winning program (selected by iStudy 2 years in a row as the Best Experience Based Learning Program).

You can learn more about the powerful youth program at our website: powerfulyouth.com  To qualify for the discounted Brookes Westshore student price you must indicate on the application form that your school is Brookes Westshore.

Many of you may have already made plans for this summer so if you are interested we will be running programs next year at our UK school as well as at Brookes Westshore.

Powerful Youth students investing their time in various service projects.

Dear Parents and Students,

Another busy week of learning at Brookes Westshore.  The MYP 1 and 2 were able to each spend a day at Camp Thunderbird to experience some outdoor adventures and the MYP 1 also visited the University of Victoria Astronomy lab for their interdisciplinary unit. Every year of the MYP teachers design an interdisciplinary unit of study which involves two subjects. The purpose of these interdisciplinary units is to focus on a significant global context to promote a deeper understanding and promote inquiry.

This is a very busy time for our DP 1 students as prepare for their year end exams. The English Literature students are also completing their oral presentation and there are also a couple of internal assessments happening this month. On June 20, all DP1 students will be travelling to Bamberton Park where they will work collaboratively to complete the IB Group 4 (Science) Project. This is one of my favorite IB requirements – the only requirement of the project is that students work with students who are studying a different science. We  group a physics, biology and chemistry student together for this project and they work together to develop an investigation and complete data collection.

We are in the final weeks of the academic year and teachers are planning year end events for each grade level.  I will have all the final details for our year end celebrations in next week’s newsletter.
