16 Days of Activism kicks off in Frankston CityThursday 25 November–10 December 16 Days of Activism (16DoA) is an annual United Nations campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. 16DoA begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November) and ends on International Human Rights Day (10 December). In 2021, Council is again proud to join Respect Victoria and DV Victoria in recognising 16DoA, with the theme: 'Respect is...' Council will be hosting a variety of FREE engagement activities to promote Frankston City as a safe and inclusive community. Walking 16 Ks in 16 daysRespecting Seniors Network in partnership with Zonta Melbourne South East and Zonta Mornington Peninsula are leading a walking campaign against ageism, sexism and violence throughout the 16 Days of Activism. The Network is encouraging everyone to aim to walk at least 16 K’s in 16 Days to raise awareness of older survivors of family violence. Walkers are encouraged to log their steps on an online 'community pedometer', to indicate the total distance covered by participants across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. Selfie frames will also be installed along popular walking routes and digital versions will be available for download on the Respecting Seniors Network website, so make sure to post your support as you walk! Council receives major boost for outdoor activations in Frankston CityFrankston City has received $575,000 in funding from the State Government, as part of the COVIDSafe Outdoor Activation Fund. The funding builds on previous rounds of the Local Councils Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package. Play Strategy and Local Park Plan adoptedFrankston City’s Play Strategy and Local Park Plan have been adopted by Council following extensive community consultation. The Play Strategy aims to connect communities better through play, provide better integrated, inclusive and accessible play spaces, more diverse and better distributed play spaces, introduce new types of play and improve the design, delivery and maintenance of play spaces across Frankston City. The Local Park Plan focuses on local parks in Carrum Downs, Frankston North and Langwarrin as high priority neighbourhoods, primarily due to local population densities, growth and demand. Council, MPs and residents work together for new pedestrian crossingPedestrian safety has been improved with the completion of a new pedestrian crossing at McCormicks Road in Carrum Downs thanks to a collaboration with residents, Federal and State MPs and the Department of Transport to implement pedestrian operated signals and replace the refuge island to improve safety, while lowering vehicle speeds. Celebrating our revitalised infrastructureCouncil is making the most of lifted restrictions to officially launch many exciting new infrastructure projects, as well as providing official openings for projects completed these past few months. This month we celebrated the commencement of key projects including: · The $1.3 million McClelland soccer pitch reconstruction will be completed by January. We are also undertaking a $466,000 sports lighting upgrade at McClelland, with design to be completed by the end of this year and works to commence late 2022. · The sod turning for the planned $35.3 million redevelopment at Jubilee Park, including the stadium revitalisation, was also held on 10 November We also marked the completion of many significant projects, including: · We officially opened our $9.147 million RF Miles Precinct Redevelopment on Wednesday 10 November · The impressive $4.2 million Centenary Park tennis centre revitalisation was completed earlier this year and officially opened on Thursday 11 November · A new turf wicket installed at AH Butler Oval in Frankston, ready for Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club to enjoy, at a total Council investment of $115,000. Officially opened 11 November · The new cricket nets at Belvedere Reserve in Seaford, with $270,000 invested by Council. We held an official opening on Thursday 11 November · The Belvedere Bowls Club state-of-the-art facilities are ready for the club to enjoy. The $2.25 million project includes $250,000 from the Federal Government and $70,000 from the club itself. The official opening was held on Tuesday 16 November · Council allocated $352,932 to now completed Downs Estate upgrades, including construction of a composting toilet, master plan preparation, veranda works, a new path network, car parking, rainwater harvesting, solar panels and guttering. Over all Council has provided $666,000 to the Downs Estate precinct. Official opening is scheduled for Thursday 18 November. Are you eligible for a booster?The Frankston Community Vaccination Hub is now offering COVID-19 booster vaccinations to anyone aged 18 years and older who received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago.Pfizer booster doses will be provided to all eligible community members, regardless of which vaccine you received for your first two doses. You will need to provide proof of when you received your second dose of vaccine when you arrive. A COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate from the Service Victoria app will suffice. Alternatively you can book in with your GP for your booster shot.
