CaRST eNewsletterApplications Now Open: Falling Walls Lab Adelaide PhD & Masters students — your research deserves the world stage! Have a bold idea or groundbreaking research project? Here’s your chance to pitch it in just 3 minutes and launch your journey to Berlin! Falling Walls Lab Adelaide is part of a prestigious global pitch competition that celebrates innovative thinking from emerging leaders across all disciplines. You’ll present your research, business model or innovation to a panel of experts, sharing how your work helps solve some of the world’s most urgent challenges and creates a positive impact on science and society. The University of Adelaide will host the Falling Walls Lab Adelaide 2025 on 30 July. The top two winners will travel (flights covered) to Canberra for the Falling Walls Lab Australia Finale on 1 September. The national winner will represent Australia at the Global Finale in Berlin during the Falling Walls Science Summit on 7 November. You’ll join the top 100 international Lab winners, compete for the Breakthrough of the Year – Emerging Talents title, win prize money, and pitch again on the grand stage. Who can apply? Surveying with Qualtrics Needing to collect data from people in a structured and intuitive way? Qualtrics is a powerful cloud-based survey tool, ideal for social scientists from all disciplines. This course will introduce the technical components of the whole research workflow from building a survey to analysing the results using Qualtrics. Making Sense of the TA Family This session explores the three major approaches to Thematic Analysis—Reflexive, Codebook, and Coding Reliability—and how they differ in assumptions, process, and purpose. It’s designed to help researchers choose and apply the approach that best fits their project, with greater clarity and confidence. Unix Shell and Command Line Basics The Unix environment is incredibly powerful but quite daunting to the newcomer. Command line confidence unlocks powerful computing resources beyond the desktop, including virtual machines and High Performance Computing. Florey Postgraduate Research conference The Florey Postgraduate Research Conference is a major highlight in the Faculty's calendar. This is a great opportunity for you as a student to network with your peers, researchers and academics from across the university. This year, the conference will feature an additional Postgraduate Careers Expo component aimed at providing advice, guidance, opportunity and support for all current students.
