Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at Highgate Hill House School! Headteacher updateHello all, Welcome back to you all after the summer break, I hope you were able to take some time out over the holidays and enjoy a well-deserved rest. We've been busy over the summer break with some internal building works, namely our new food technology room, hub and library area. We have another action-packed Autumn term planned for the children, although the start of the new term took an unexpected turn with the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. During the official mourning period, the children took the opportunity to explore this profound event in appropriate and sensitive ways, reflecting on Queen Elizabeth's reign over the decades and our new King, King Charles III. I should like to take this opportunity to welcome the new pupils that have started with us this term - I am pleased to see you settling in and making friends. Likewise, I would like to welcome our new School Cook Sharon, who has been cooking some delicious meals for pupils and staff. Welcome to the team Sharon! On that note, please note that we have now reverted to a 4-week rolling menu, details of which can be found further down in this newsletter so please do take a look. Warm wishes, Gina Wagland Headteacher Exciting new chapter for HHHSWe are very pleased to have joined the Melrose Education Group at the end of July, an outstanding group of special education and alternative provision schools. We are the fifth school to join this dynamic group, and as a result Highgate will benefit from increased support and funding, whilst pupils will be celebrated for their individuality and achievements. So, in order to make the process a little easier for everyone, we have reverted to a 4-week rolling menu now that our new School Cook is in post. We have added the four weekly menus to the website to download, plus a timetable of week numbers so that you know which menu we are following each week. Please click on the button below and scroll down to the 'school meals' section of the page to view the menus. If anyone needs hard copies of the menus sending home, please let the School Office know on 01288 341998. We are ISA Awards 2022 Finalists! We are very pleased to share with you that we have been shortlisted for a prestigious national award - the ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The Independent Schools Association Awards is an annual event, which celebrates the success of member schools, and recognises the breadth of quality and provision in independent education across the country, and will take place in November. The shortlisting focused on an adapted piece of bush craft kit – a fire steel (a man-made flint) for lighting fires – which Practical Skills Instructors Ollie Norton and Kim Tester adapted to ensure that two pupils, who have a limited range of strength and motion, could take part in the activity and use it to light a fire safely for the first time.
