Auckland champs win NZ titleNaenae Bowling Club Carlton Cornwall’s Triples team of Karen Hema, Linda Ralph and Lisa Prideaux continued their in-form season, convincingly winning their way through to be crowned 2022 National Champion of Champions Women’s Triples titleholders. Carlton Cornwall was a cohesive unit, all playing terrific bowls. Lisa and Linda were consistent with the placement of their bowls to set up the wins. This put the opposing teams under continued pressure. Meanwhile, Karen added to the pressure by ensuring to cover bowls or add to their tally. The team from Auckland was undefeated in all four games to qualify. With a bye in the quarter-final, they went straight to the semi-final match, defeating Debbie Sansom, Debbie Salt, and Jackie Sutton from Woolston Park, 22-7. In the Final, they played against Jean Stratford, Evelyn Ussher, and Robyn Hall from Waihopai. Karen, Lisa, and Karen were too dominant, winning the match, 20- 5. Congratulations to Linda, Karen, and Lisa for another outstanding achievement for the season. A special congratulations to Linda Ralph for being awarded her National Silver Star for winning her fifth national title: 2012 – NZ Club Champion Singles Click here to read Bowls NZ wrap-up article Image courtesy of Bowls NZ NZ Champ of Champs FoursBowls Hastings The ladies with the golden touch from Carlton Cornwall make another appearance at the Nationals this weekend - this time in the Fours: Linda Ralph, Karen de Jongh, Karen Hema and Lisa Prideaux. Upcoming events24 July – WinterClub Finals Auckland Bowls AGMHere are the details of Auckland Bowls 2022 annual general meeting: Date: Saturday, 30 July 2022 From our clubsHawkeye awarded life membershipAt our recent AGM, Garry (Hawkeye) Hawks was awarded life membership of Bridge Park. Only a member for the last eight years, Hawkeye’s efforts and achievements demanded that President Teora Turua nominate him from the floor for this honour. The motion was carried more by raucous cheers and chants of “Hawky, Hawky...” rather than the usual show of hands. As Club Secretary, Bar Manager, Functions Manager and casual Green Superintendent, Hawkeye has been a one-man walking and talking committee at times. In addition to these and numerous other tasks, Hawkeye found time to completely redraft the Club’s Constitution in 2017 to bring it out of the 18th century. He was also the driving force behind the successful replacement of 'A' green in 2019, liaising with Council, sourcing quotes, raising grants from funding agencies and project managing the contract. Hawkeye is a keen listener who adopts a consultative approach to decision-making. He considers all opinions and is not afraid to change his own if there is a better way to do something. Contributed by Phil Taylor A great tribute nightRoyal Oak Bowls Over 80 members and friends of Gary Fleming enjoyed a delightful tribute night last Friday. There were some great 'war' stories told on the night for a man who literally has done everything at Onehunga Bowling Club and Royal Oak Bowls. Thank you, Gary, for everything you've done for us these past 53 years and thank you, Gale and Mike, for making it all happen on the night. And thank you, Neil Stanley, for making the specially commissioned trophy that the Club presented to Gary. It was great to see some Members we've not seen for a while paying tribute to Gary.
