Your responses are helping us understand your experience and how we can build a supportive and high-quality training environment for graduate researchers in the new Adelaide University. Those who have indicated that they would like to join Adelaide University focus groups will be contacted in the next couple of weeks. Another huge thanks to all of you who have completed the annual University of Adelaide HDR Experience survey. We are currently analysing the data and will share insights with you soon. We have reached the middle of the year (already!), which means the 3-Minute-Thesis (3MT) competition is on. Registrations closed recently, and we have many interested participants entering the Faculty heats in early July. You can find all dates on our AGRS website (Events) and posted on X (prev. Twitter). You can join and learn about what’s going on around the university and ask any question you may like about your own study or experience. Watch out for the Zoom link in your inbox on the morning of the catch up. HDR Social Networking Sessions In response to feedback from the inaugural HDR Experience Survey, many of you expressed a desire for more opportunities to engage with your HDR peers outside of your research projects. To address this, AGRS introduced HDR Networking Sessions designed to foster connections among HDR students in a relaxed setting with refreshments. Over May and June, AGRS hosted six HDR Networking Lunches across the three faculties, bringing together 199 students for these social events. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who attended and look forward to seeing even more HDRs join us in the upcoming sessions. Celebrating Students' SuccessDean's Commendation for Doctoral Research Excellence - May 2024 We are delighted to announce the exceptional achievements of the students who have been honoured with the Dean's Commendation for Research Excellence for the month of May 2024. Postgraduate Scholarship OpportunitiesThe Adelaide Graduate Research School maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process. John Monash Scholarship Information Webinar The John Monash Scholarships are awarded to outstanding Australians to support postgraduate study at leading universities around the world and is not limited by age, gender, academic field of study or choice of university. Elevate: Scholarships Information Session Applications are open for the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering's Elevate: Boosting women in STEM scholarships for domestic postgraduate research students commencing in 2025. Elevate scholarships support women and non-binary people studying STEM degrees, postgraduate research degrees, and those looking to upskill in leadership by undertaking higher studies in STEM or Business. The Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship The Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship was established to honour and continue the work of Dr Clare Burton, a leading researcher, public sector administrator, academic, consultant and writer on employment equity. The student will receive a $10,000 one-off payment as a research allowance. If you are a current research student at an Australian university, enrolled either full- or part-time in a research degree, pursuing research where the major piece of work is focused on gender equity, and you have completed at least the first milestone of your research degree you may be eligible to apply. United Kingdom and Europe Global Opportunities and Impact Forum 2024The 2024 United Kingdom and Europe Global Opportunities and Impact Forum will be held on Monday 1 July 2024, 12:30pm-2:00pm. Systematic Review Fundamentals MyUni course now available! Are you interested in conducting a systematic review, or other evidence synthesis project? Check out the Library’s new Systematic Review Fundamentals MyUni course. The course will guide you through preparing, searching, managing and publishing your systematic review, with a focus on troubleshooting your systematic search strategies. The course can be completed as a whole, or you can dip in and out of sections as needed. HDR students can claim 2 CaRST points upon completion of the entire course. Visualise Your Thesis – submissions close 7 July The Visualise Your Thesis competition is now open for submissions, with a closing date of 7 July. HDR students are challenged to present their research in a 60 second, eye-catching digital display. Submissions are judged on their visual impact and how well the content presents the research. The winner of the University of Adelaide competition receives a prize of $1000 and is given the opportunity to compete in the International online showcase hosted by the University of Melbourne in the latter part of the year. Register here. New printers arriving soonITDS is rolling out a new, modernised fleet of printers that will replace existing printers. The new printers deliver a more sustainable and user-friendly printing experience with increased accessibility for staff and students. The rollout for staff began in June and will continue until the end of 2024. For students, to minimise the disruption to exams and teaching periods, the rollout will take place from late-June to mid-July 2024. Student Health and Wellbeing Free Menstrual Cycle Syncing Workshop.Interested in learning more about the connection between menstrual cycles and overall wellbeing? Come along to this free talk hosted by current PhD student, Lucija Strkalj who holds a Master’s in Nutrition Science
and is passionate about women’s health. In this session, Lucija will explore how we can approach our menstrual cycles to improve health, physical and academic performance. Menstrual Cycle Syncing Workshop for Students | Humanitix FREE Exercise Program and coffee sessions for Students starting July.The wellbeing team is hosting a free exercise program for students to ‘Come and Try’ group fitness to improve their health and wellbeing. You can participate in Pilates, yoga, boxing, HIIT and more. There will be a free coffee session after every session, so you can debrief with your new exercise pals! Sessions will take place at the Fitness Hub on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between the 20th of July and the 18th of September. All participants will go into the draw to win a 6-month gym membership. Mental Health First Aid is a two-day course that teaches people how to offer initial support to adults who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Support yourself and others to identify and respond to problematic behaviours.
