Click here ACCESSING YOUR UBC CARD, U-PASS, AND AMS HEALTH & DENTAL PLANDear Student, We're delighted that you've registered to study with us in the Winter 2022 term. I am writing with important information about the UBC card, U-Pass, and AMS Health and Dental Plan, including information on whether you qualify for an exemption. Please read this email in full at your earliest convenience. NOTE: If you are taking less than 3 credit hours this term, the following information does not apply to you. You will not be charged fees for the U-Pass or the AMS Health & Dental Plan, and can ignore this information. UBC CARDRegent is an affiliate of the University of British Columbia. As a Regent student, you get a UBC card which identifies you as an affiliate student who qualifies for certain benefits. If you are new to Regent, or if your UBC card has expired or will expire soon, you can request a new UBC card by completing our request form. Please note that your photo must meet the specifications set out here. We shall notify you when your card is ready. Please allow up to two working weeks to process your request. GENERAL INFORMATIONYour UBC ID is the 8-digit student ID number found on the left-hand panel of your profile when you log in to REGIS. The 6-digit number is your Regent ID. Students taking 3 credits or more in the winter term are automatically enrolled in the U-Pass and in the AMS Health & Dental Plan. These charges are automatically included in your student fees, though students who paid tuition in September 2021 have already paid their AMS Health & Dental fees for the 2021/2022 year. Exemptions for new students only are available in limited circumstances—see below for exemption details. Note: If you have already registered for courses and you do not see any charges on your account for the U-Pass or AMS Health & Dental Plan, you will not need to request an exemption. U-PASSOne of the benefits your UBC card grants is a U-Pass. You must have a valid UBC card in order to load your U-Pass. However, you do not necessarily need to have the UBC card on hand. Once your UBC card has been printed by UBC, you will be able to load your U-Pass immediately online. To use your U-Pass, you must first purchase a Compass Card from Vancouver's transit system, Translink. Compass Cards are available for a $6 deposit. Learn how to buy a Compass Card here. After this, you will need to request to load your U-Pass onto your Compass Card on a monthly basis. You can request this after the 15th day of the previous month. (For example, you will be able to load your October U-Pass onto your Compass Card any time after September 15.) To load your U-Pass and review your account, click here. U-PASS EXEMPTIONSWe are aware that some students may not use their U-Pass. In general, however, participation in the U-Pass program is mandatory. This is because the success of the U-Pass program relies on bulk purchases that enable AMS (UBC's student society) to buy access for the student body at a significant discount. This year, the U-Pass costs only $43.35 per month––less than 25% of the cost of Translink's standard 3-zone monthly pass ($181.05). By having everyone contribute together towards the U-Pass, students can enjoy highly subsidized and accessible public transportation. Learn more here. Exemptions are available in limited circumstances:
AMS HEALTH & DENTAL PLANThe AMS Health & Dental Plan covers expenses not covered by basic health care plans, such as British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP), equivalent provincial health care plans, and private basic plans. It covers a range of prescription drugs, dental care, psychologist visits, travel health coverage, vision care, and much more. Note for new students: Family coverage is also available through the AMS Health & Dental Plan. To enroll your family, follow these instructions. Note for returning students: A reminder that if you paid tuition in Fall 2021, you have already been charged for the whole year and won't be charged again. HEALTH & DENTAL PLAN EXEMPTIONSStudents starting at Regent in Winter 2022 may opt out of the AMS Health & Dental Plan if they already have equivalent extended health coverage. If this applies to you, follow the instructions on the Studentcare website. The change of coverage period is Jan 3, 2022 to Jan 28, 2022. If you wish to opt out, you must do so within this time period. REFUNDIf you qualify for an exemption, it will be processed and approved by UBC and AMS. We will then refund the fees to your student account. This will typically happen towards the end of February. If you don't see the refund by early March, please email registration@regent-college.edu. We know there's lots of information to stay on top of, and hope this email is clear and helpful as you prepare for your term here. If you have any questions, you can contact me at registration@regent-college.edu. We are here to help. Best wishes, Keith Chu P.S. You should have received another email from my colleague, Patricia Seto, this week. It contained important information about registration and payment deadlines. Please refer here for further information on tuition fees and how to pay. |
