2025 NIH Salary Cap Update

The NIH has released a new salary cap of $225,700, effective January 1, 2025. To read the full NIH announcement, click here.

What does this mean for your salary cap applicable awards?
For any budget period that started prior to January 1, 2025, the previous salary cap of $221,900 will be utilized for the remainder of the budget period. The new salary cap will be utilized at the start of the next budget period. For any budget period starting January 1, 2025, or later, the new salary cap will be utilized.

READ THE FULL NIH ANNOUNCEMENT HERE

REMINDER: Reduced FTEs are proportionally capped. For example, an individual with $150,000 Emory base salary at a 0.50 FTE would be $300,000 at a full FTE. Therefore, that individual would be over the salary cap. The salary cap must be reduced proportionally to the FTE. $225,700*0.50 FTE = $112,850 applicable salary cap.

Please reach out to your assigned pre- or post-award administrator with any questions! The current assignment list and organizational chart can be found here.

Recent NIH Grant Cancellation Notices

Many in our community have received grant cancellation notices. When Emory is the prime institution OSP is informed and we are also aware, but it is virtually impossible to find out if you receive a notice of a cancellation from a collaborator at another institution when they and not Emory is the primary awardee. We advise faculty to inform us of any grant cancellations through this form, below.

INFORM THE DOM OF GRANT CANCELATIONS

As we navigate these difficult times, we remain committed to research at Emory and would like to provide you with information on how to appeal these decisions. Please see the appeals process here and at the button below.
