Robots Invade The MINT with Rutland Expansion
The MINT is this city’s multifaceted makerspace, supplying the tools and materials necessary for almost any project an artisan wants to pursue. This July, the nonprofit expanded its Quality Lane space from 14,000 square feet to 22,000 square feet. Part of the expansion includes a playing field to train and practice robots — ones used by high school teams across the country in tournaments like the FIRST Robotics Competition. The events involve students pitting robots in some sort of physical game. Rutland Area Robotics (RAR) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports K-12 robotics teams in Central Vermont. This expansion will allow RAR and other teams throughout Vermont the opportunity to practice in a large space. Learn more about RAR and The MINT →

Vermont Farmers Market Education Center, Inc. in Rutland City was awarded $800,000. The money will redevelop Farmer’s Hall, a 14,750-square-foot, vacant commercial space. Killington Resort and Great Gulf Pledge $700,000 to Support Workforce Housing
Killington Resort, part of POWDR, announces that in partnership with Great Gulf, it will donate a total of $700,000 to the Town of Killington. The money is allocated to fund 70 acres of land in Killington on which to develop workforce
housing, part of the area’s ongoing Killington Forward initiative. Killington Resort is committed to supporting the community through Play Forever, an initiative that aims to strengthen the place where we live with donations such as this one. The 70-acre plot is located off Nanak Way in Killington and will be serviced by the new municipal water system being installed over the next several years. The land is mapped for a
total of 250-300 housing units, with 6-8 multifamily apartment buildings and 16-20 duplex or single-family homes with ample green space. Read more about the pledge →

Family & Medical Leave Insurance Webinar
The State of Vermont has partnered with The Hartford to create an optional program to offer Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FMLI) to your employees. This program provides the peace of mind that your employees need so that they can focus on what matters most, their well-being, and their families. Phase 2 includes open enrollment for all Vermont businesses on July 1, 2024, and the Administration is seeking to engage with employers who might be interested in extending this coverage to their employees at an affordable cost. In this webinar, we'll
hear about the status of the program, preparation for the next phase, and how employers who would like to elect to join this lower-cost risk pool should prepare. Register here and learn more →

Funding Available for Community-driven Environmental Justice Projects
The Vermont Community Foundation is seeking proposals for programs or projects that help local communities adapt to the impacts of Vermont's changing climate and the increase in severe weather events. The Environmental Justice Small Grant Program is designed to support Vermont communities facing increasingly severe weather events and rising temperatures. Just as Vermonters adapt to the changing
seasons, it is important that our communities prepare themselves for the long-term effects of a changing climate. Projects may represent a wide spectrum of ideas and activities, including arts, community education and skill building, food access, green jobs, projects that reduce risk and harm, multi-generational climate activities, youth leadership, movement building, and more. Applications will be accepted between October 19 and December 1, 2023. Learn More →
Meet Your New "Work Home"
Update from the Real Rutland Concierge Coordinator
Program Update: As of October 15, Real Rutland has welcomed 25 families, totaling 57 people, to Rutland County in 2023. This brings us to a total of 235 people who have moved to Rutland County since the Real Rutland Concierge Program began in 2016. We anticipate another 11 people will move to Rutland County by the end of 2023, surpassing the 2022 total of 39 people. This shows that Rutland County is a desirable place to relocate. Many people who speak to us about why they want to relocate here cite a more attractive climate, a
welcoming community, and a less crowded city as motivators. We truly are living in a special place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Real Rutland Concierge Connection: November Issue For this month’s newsletter, we spoke to Real Rutland Concierge, Melissa Theis, school counselor at Stafford Technical Center. Click Here to read the newsletter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Concierge Volunteers: We are looking for new Concierge Volunteers! Volunteers in the Concierge Program are ambassadors for our region helping people find resources and make connections in Rutland as they consider relocation to the area. The responsibility of the Concierge is to reach out to the potential new Rutland resident once assigned for an initial meeting, share their knowledge of the area, and answer questions the interested person may have. Then, stay in touch as needed and follow up with the Concierge Coordinator. The Concierge Coordinator will work with the Concierge and the interested person to make sure that they have everything that they need to make their move to Rutland a success. We are looking for Concierges of all backgrounds and demographics. If you are interested in finding out more about the program or would like to volunteer to be a Concierge, please reach out to Karly Haven, Real Rutland Concierge Coordinator, at karly@rutlandeconomy.com or 802-770-7069.
