Congratulations to our April 2024 Psychology graduates! Here are two important dates to keep in mind.
May 31, 2024 - Transcripts with April 2024 degrees posted will be available through the Registrar's Office (G-3 Thanckeray Hall).
June 17, 2024 - The Registrar's Office will begin mailing diplomas for April 2024 graduates.

Summer Research Position Available
Impact of Psychosocial Factors on the Immune System
Dr. Marsland's Behavioral Immunology Laboratory is recruiting undergraduate research assistants for the upcoming semester! Research in our laboratory explores how psychological and social factors affect the function of the immune system and the process of aging. Our group’s overall research aim is to explore how these phenomena affect susceptibility to disease in humans – a truly interdisciplinary focus. Students will have direct involvement with the many research projects our lab is involved with, some of which Dr. Marsland is a primary investigator (PI) on, and others in which she is a collaborator with researchers outside of the University of Pittsburgh. Undergraduate Research Assistants help prepare samples for storage, set up experiments/assays, record results into study databases, analyze and refine finished data sets, and assist with the maintenance of laboratory inventories and
equipment, organize, and prepare clinical samples for analysis, as well as other tasks, under the direction of the laboratory manager, Zak Hutchinson and Dr. Marsland. Our laboratory is thoroughly committed to not just educating our students, but also mentoring them so we can help prepare them for success after their time with the University is over. We also pride ourselves on our commitment to inclusion and diversity. Computer skills are a must and working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel are required. Applicants should be independent and responsible and be able to ensure a safe working environment. In addition, applicants should possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and be able to to sensitively interact with others as a part of the greater laboratory team.

Please join us for a virtual University of Pittsburgh Speech-Language Pathology (MA/MS) Information Session. Dr. Sarah Wallace (she/her), program director, will orient prospective students to the essential structure of the SLP program, with emphasis on the clinical and academic organization. This ~20 minute presentation will answer most standard questions about the program. The remainder of the time will be open for Q&A with Dr. Wallace and Dr. Joseph Ashenden.

Research Assistant, Vanderbilt University
This full-time research assistant position is part of the Mood, Emotion, and Development Lab housed in the Department of Psychology and Human Development at Peabody College at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of studies of neural and physiological predictors of depression and intervention outcomes in youth and families. Primary responsibilities will include running EEG study sessions with young children and administering diagnostic interviews with parents. The research assistant will report to the lab manager and lab director. The ideal start date for this position is August 1, 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead EEG study sessions with young children (4-6 year olds)
* Administer diagnostic interviews with parents
* Train students in study procedures and lab expectations
* Assist with the organization and analysis of datasets
* Oversee data entry and processing
* Closely monitor and appropriately document all payments made to research participants
* Maintain organization of lab spaces and lab servers
Qualifications
* A bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive studies, child studies, or a related field is required.
* Previous research experience working with human subjects is required.
* Experience working with children and families is required.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary.
* Experience training others is preferred.
* Experience working with data in SPSS, R, or other statistical software is preferred.
* Experience with programming in Python, Presentation, or E-Prime is preferred.
* Experience with EEG methods is preferred.
* Experience administering diagnostic interviews/assessments is preferred.
* Experience with and detailed knowledge of REDCap is preferred.

Two Clinically Oriented Research Assistants, Vanderbilt Psychotic Disorders Program
Two full time research assistants needed to join a laboratory within the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital focused on the study of psychotic disorders. Under direct supervision, the research assistant will lead recruitment and serve as a primary assessor for a randomized-clinical trial (RCT) of a psychotherapy intervention for delusions. This will require a desire to work directly with individuals who experience psychosis as well as excellent organizational and data management skills. The research assistant will be responsible for performing psychiatric symptom interviews, administering cognitive tests, and carrying out neuroimaging study protocols.
The research assistant will be an integral part of the study team, will regularly attend clinical meetings and will assist with recruitment in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the maintenance of IRBs, database management, and assisting with manuscript preparation.
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and capable of working independently. Individuals interested in mental health and psychosocial clinical trials are especially encouraged to apply. The position requires a high level of interpersonal skills, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities. It is ideal for individuals with a clinical master’s degree and/ or those interested in pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology (or related field). Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field (e.g. neuroscience, human development). Experience in a clinical research setting is highly desirable. Training in clinical interviewing methods, cognitive testing, and neuroimaging data analysis will be provided. This position is at least a 2-year commitment.
