John Maizels honoured at Intuit Visionary Ball, Chicago

Raw Vision editor John Maizels was the honouree at the Intuit Visionary Ball on September 26, this year renamed the Raw Visionary Ball. As well as the Visionary Award John Maizels was presented with a portrait by Chicago artist David Lee Csicsko.

Compere Edward Gomez admirably aided the event and it was followed the next day by a Q & A session with Intuit members chaired by Bill Swislow. Bob Roth and Cleo Wilson were also honoured as founders of the Intuit organisation.

During the thirty years or so of Raw Vision's existence there has been a huge transformation in the way outsider art is regarded. At one time it was almost a secret art known only to a few but gradually it has overcome hostility and incomprehension until today it is surely regarded as equal to any other art.
Indeed now there are even calls to drop the name Outsider Art completely and just call it Art - after all it is just like any other art.
SORRY - but NO - It is not like any other art at all - if anything it is superior to other forms, it is an art - as we all know - an art that is as natural as the grass growing, an art that has unparalelled depth and personal meaning, an art that has a deep spirituality, an art that is unique to each artist, an art that comes from nowhere and everywhere, the purest form of art known to mankind.
