DWP and Hawki Emergency Services

If your DWP and/or Hawki patients have an Emergent Dental Service, you do not need to limit services to specific codes that would be excluded from a member’s ABM. In addition, in an emergency, a prior authorization is not required.

The Provider must include information to Delta Dental of Iowa that the services were emergent. That can be completed one of two ways.

Use box 35 (remarks) on the ADA claim form and include the word “Emergency”
Include clinical documentation as an attachment that includes why the services were emergent.

The member’s clinical record must include clinical documentation that demonstrates an emergency dental condition as defined by ADA – emergency dental condition guidelines.

DWP Risk Assessment

Effective August 1, 2024, Delta Dental will no longer reimburse providers for the completion of the PreViser risk assessment (D0601, D0602, and D0603 codes).

If you wish to continue completing a risk assessment with members to aid in treatment planning, the oral health self-assessment located at https://survey.previser.com/ddia may be utilized.

Provider Revalidation - DWP and Hawki

Iowa Medicaid is in the process of revalidating dental providers. Please review the Informational Letter (IL) released by Iowa Medicaid on July 25, 2024 which includes a step-by-step process: IL 2616-MC-FFS-D.

The first step to start the revalidation process is by printing and mailing this form.

Ensuring revalidation is completed promptly is imperative to maintain ongoing enrollment with Iowa Medicaid. Failure to undergo revalidation with Iowa Medicaid may result in the inability for Delta Dental to process claims for providers in the DWP, DWP Kids, and Hawki networks.

For any questions regarding the process, if revalidation is needed for a provider, or current revalidation status, contact Iowa Medicaid at (800) 338-7909.

Claims Processing Update

As a reminder, starting July 1, 2024, DWP, DWP Kids and Hawki claims must be submitted to Delta Dental of Iowa within 180 days of the service date. This is applicable for dates of service July 1, 2024 and greater.

Dental fraud can lead to patients receiving care that is not safe or needed. 1,000+ Volunteers Needed for Free Dental Clinic

Delta Dental is proud to provide financial support and serve on the planning committee for the Iowa Dental Foundation’s 15th Iowa Mission of Mercy (IMOM). This free, two-day dental clinic will be held at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City on October 4 and 5.

To ensure a successful event, IMOM will engage more than 1,000 volunteers. While dental professionals provide the dental care, general volunteers are also needed to assist with registration, childcare, interpretation services, food and beverage, and a wide variety of other tasks.
