Green Leader Q&A #38: Hannah Cox, Director of Betternotstop

Hannah runs betternotstop, a sustainable impact agency in Manchester. Their 'More Than Music' report, offers event frameworks for sustainability in music festivals, evidenced by their work at Kendal Calling where 98.07% of tents were taken home by attendees. As a B Corp Certified company, they also run the consistently sold out Better Business Summit every January.

Festival Sustainability Trends in 2024: What to Watch this year

VISION: 2025 at AIF Congress: Launch of Materials & Waste Management Toolkit

Vision: 2025 will join The Association of Independent Festival's Congress (AIF) on 1 Feb 2024 at Bristol Beacon to provide an update on festival sustainability trends in 2024, including the launch of the new Sustainable Materials & Waste Management Toolkit created in collaboration with Julie's Bicycle.

The Toolkit is the latest resource created for the Towards Zero Waste Festival Project, run by Vision: 2025 and Julie's Bicycle, and funded by the Dixon Foundation. AIF Congress delegates can watch the launch on the main stage and join a workshop for a practical demo. Get your AIF Congress Tickets.

Green Events Code of Practice Pilot Launch - Jan 2024

Vision: 2025 and Julie’s Bicycle have launched a 12-month pilot with ten local authorities including Manchester, Bristol and Reading, to test how the Green Events Code of Practice (GECOP) can be used to embed sustainability within local authority processes.

GECOP has been developed as a collaboration between the outdoor events industry, local authorities and other stakeholders, to create a clear and consistent understanding and approach to sustainable best practice for the sector. The project is co-funded by Arts Council England and participating local authorities. Read more about GECOP and the pilot launch on the Vision: 2025 website.

Nordic Wristbands is extending the variety of methods to minimise the company’s carbon impact, with a pioneering way to recycle RFID tags through separating the metal and plastic. Nordic has offset 293tonnes of CO2e to balance the Company’s 2023 activity, and is extending the Stand For Trees offset program for clients. Read the full case study here.

LAUNCH EVENT: ENGAGING AUDIENCES ON CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH TRAVEL CAMPAIGNS

Resource Spotlight: #SES23 Playback: Keynote from EarthPercent's Executive Director, Cathy Runciman

Vision: 2025's Sustainable Events Summit 2023 sessions are available to watch on catch up. We kick off by sharing the keynote from Cathy Runciman, Executive Director of charity EarthPercent UK, who shares a vision for sustainable and planet-positive events: the why, the what and the how of actions and advocacy needed for the sector's future. Fusion Festivals Case Study: Cruïlla, Barcelona

Each month we feature a case study from the FUSION – Festivals as Social Innovation Incubators project:

This month we turn the spotlight on Cruïlla (Spain, 50,000 capacity), one of three major international music festivals in Barcelona. Cruïlla offers a diverse range of acts, from world-famous artists to the best Catalan and Spanish acts. Besides music, Cruïlla hosts social NGOs and cultural associations organising different activities that festival-goers participate in to learn more about what the NGOs flight for - not just at the festival but all year round through their outreach projects: Find out more on the Fusion website. 

Future Festival Tools Case Study: Climax Festival, France

Climax Festival (France, capacity 5,000) takes place in Bordeaux in the Darwin Ecosystem, a rehabilitated wasteland of former military barracks. In this case study, learn how they have reduced residual waste by strictly separating material flows resulting in 87% of the waste created during the 2021 edition being recycled. Vision: 2025 give Boomsatsuma Students Opportunities at #SES23

Vision 2025’s Sustainable Event Summit, October 18th, 2023, brought over 250 event professionals together to discuss festival sustainability and climate action in the sector.

Vision: 2025 invited students from boomsatsuma, a Bristol-based specialised education provider for the creative industries, to fulfil a commercial brief and capture the day, supporting their mission to 'close the gap between eductaion and the creative industries.' Two Film and TV college students from boomsatsuma have created videos of the panel sessions, which will be released over the coming weeks on Vision: 2025's YouTube Channel.
