A reminder that bookings open 4 weeks prior to the event and some events have limited places available. If a session you are interested in is fully booked, or not yet open for registration, we encourage you to sign up for the waitlist. This enables you to get first access when a position opens, and allows us to monitor interest in a course. Where there is greater interest than places, we will look at accommodating additional spots. Project Management When: 20 February 2024, 10:00am - 1:00pm Recommended for mid to late candidature HDR students, this workshop will provide an introduction into the context, rationale, strategy and tactics of project management. Presented by A/Prof Indra Gunawan, this workshop will provide you with basic knowledge in core areas of scope, time and cost, allowing you to confidently deal with the ever growing complexities and challenges of project management. Seven Secrets of Highly Successful Research Students When: 21 February 2024, 10:30am - 1:00pm What do Higher Degree by Research students do to finish on time, to overcome isolation, doubt and writer’s block, and to enjoy the process? Presented by Hugh Kearns, this workshop describes the key habits that research and experience with thousands of students shows will make a difference to how quickly and easily you complete your HDR. Register here. Leadership and the Art of Influence When: 26 February 2024, 10:00am - 12:00pm It’s often said that influence is essential to leadership – but what is influence? In this session Gary Edwards will demonstrate what influence is, how it works, why we are influenced, and how we can use that for our own benefit – whether we are in a formal leadership role or just trying to “lead” someone to where we’d like them to go. Register here. Handling Difficult Conversations Well When: 27 February 2024, 10:00am - 12:00pm It sometimes seems that life is full of difficult conversations! They’re the ones that we put off, avoid or stumble our way through. But it is possible to handle them with greater certainty and confidence – and still get a good result with less emotional turmoil. Presented by Gary Edwards, this session we will look at how these conversations arise, how they differ from “normal” conversations and how you can use collaborative communication skills to build relationships, reduce conflict, increase learning and improve outcomes. Researcher Profiles and Personal Branding When: 7 March 2024, 2:00pm - 3:00pm This session will provide an overview of why having a researcher profile is important, and how this contributes to developing your personal brand. It will cover where to find the relevant systems, how they link together, managing a personal brand and profile, and where to find more help and training when it is needed. Register here. Faculty Debate: Mentorship is a luxury HDR students are invited to the annual H&MS faculty debate on the topic of mentorship. Adelaide researchers and academics will debate this topic and at the end, you will be the judge. CaRST Tips Did you know that a requirement of your CCSP is to complete your Skills Assessment and Development Plan? This will help you to define your current skills and the skills you would like to work on in order to achieve your immediate and future goals. This is not set in stone, this tool is here to help you work better toward your goals and can be edited during your Phd/Master journey.
