McPeak is a primary care pediatrician and medical director for health equity of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. McPeak has extensive experience in quality improvement, system redesign, and primary care management in predominantly Medicaid-insured/underserved communities. During this podcast, McPeak talks about her time at Penn State, her career, pediatric health care, health care disparities, the importance of trust between patients and physicians, and more. Science Alumnus Featured on "Dare to Disrupt" Podcast SeriesThe Schreyer Honors College Dare to Disrupt podcast series recently featured James Delattre, a 1997 graduate with a B.S. in chemistry. Delattre is the director of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization at Penn State. During the podcast, he shares his background and then explains the origin of Invent Penn State and the incredible resources available for not only students but alumni and community members looking to start, build, or scale a business. Chemistry Department Head Cited in Nobel Prize–Winning ResearchPhilip Bevilacqua, Penn State Eberly College of Science chemistry department head and distinguished professor of chemistry and of biochemistry and molecular biology, coauthored one of the three key publications that were cited in this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The paper coauthored by Bevilacqua, published in 2010, described incorporating a modified building block called pseudouridine into mRNA. The modified mRNA made more proteins, which could reduce inflammation during an immune response. Read more.
