Deacon Dario Rinaldi’s journey to priesthood culminates on May 20 when Bishop Larry Silva will ordain him as a diocesan priest at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu.

On May 2, the Hawaii Catholic Herald spoke by phone with Rinaldi, 29, as he finished up his time at the seminary in California.

“In this moment, after quite the ride that it’s been through over 10 years of seminary, it’s a very uplifting feeling, sort of this sense of completion and yet excitement for the things to come,” said Deacon Rinaldi of how he felt about his approaching ordination.

“Over the course of 11 years, I’ve been to two seminaries, been assigned at seven parishes [on the mainland and in Hawaii] as a seminarian and later as a deacon, had so many powerful experiences and met so many interesting people,” Deacon Rinaldi said. “And it’s all been sort of gearing me towards these next couple weeks.” Read more...

Sexual Risk Avoidance Education Parent Information Nights

Parent Information Nights on May 19 and June 1

Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE)
Let us uphold the profound dignity of the body, especially the body of our keiki! Our design speaks “gift” but the world tells us to exploit the utility of the body.

If you desire your children to receive a sexual education that aligns with the original design of the Creator and St. John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” then we invite their participation in SRAE where we will: proclaim the truth of masculinity, the beauty hidden in femininity, and the goodness of reserving the sexual union within marriage.

Parent information sessions include ways to be intentional with your children, dialogue with them to set boundaries and protect their sexual integrity.

Saint of the Week

 Saint Bernardine of Siena
Memorial - May 20

Saint Bernardine of Siena was the Billy Graham of his day. Graham was a well-known American evangelist who traveled ceaselessly from city to city preaching the good news of the Gospel over many decades. Yet while today’s saint was certainly a roving evangelist, he was also much more. He was first and foremost vowed to poverty, chastity, and obedience as a Franciscan Friar. Saint Bernardine was also ordained into the one Priesthood of Jesus Christ by a successor of the Apostles. And he had received a long and complete theological and humanistic education before he ever opened his mouth in front of a crowd. He was even a doctor of canon law. Read more...
