Apply to be a ViVID Fellow!
The Virtual Video-Based Inquiry for Development of Teachers of Less Commonly Taught Languages (ViVID) Project is now recruiting fellows for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Join a cohort of practicing LCTL instructors in reflective teaching and peer mentoring! Did we mention that this is paid?? ViVID Fellows receive a stipend of $100/month for participation in the project. The final amount depends on the NLRC funding for this upcoming year, but we anticipate each fellow will receive $900-1000.

Webinar for the ACTFL LCTL Special Interest Group (SIG)
On June 29th, three NLRC personnel gave a webinar entitled "The National LCTL Resource Center and the ViVID Project" for the ACTFL LCTL special interest group (SIG). The webinar gave a broad overview of the center and then did a deep dive on the ViVID project.
The recording is available for any member to watch in the ACTFL LCTL SIG's files! (Remember, if you're a member of ACTFL, you can join as many SIGs as you want!)
NLRC News Highlights
We featured the newly updated page for all of the Language Resource Centers in the USA: nflrc.org. Check out the work that our colleagues are doing across the nation!
In June, Felix Kronenberg represented the NLRC at the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALLT) conference. In addition to the NLRC exhibitor table, he gave attendees an overview of the center during a presentation.

Purposeful Technology Integration
Explore novel and alternative technology-supported pedagogical approaches, identify technology-enabled practices with the most transformative potential, and design an intentional “new normal” for what language instruction might look like for you in the near future.
Fall Dates: September 25 – October 14
Oral Communicative Tasks
Engage in best practices for designing and facilitating synchronous and asynchronous oral communicative tasks for both presentational and interpersonal modes of instruction. Design scaffolded task progressions in order to meet all your language objectives in rigorous fashion.
Fall Dates: October 23 – November 17

Many of our fellow Language Resource Centers and National Resource Centers as well as some of our collaborative partners have their own professional development opportunities. This section highlights those opportunities.
- CARLA has many summer institutes for professional development.
- If you are interested in their summer 2024 opportunities, keep in mind that there is a scholarship for LCTL instructors!
- CERCLL is holding the International Conference on the Development and Assessment of Intercultural Competence in February 2024 - the call for papers closes July 21, 2023.
- The Coalition of Community-Based Heritage Language Schools will hold a hybrid conference October 13-14, 2023, featuring the NLRC's own Felix Kronenberg as a plenary speaker! Registration is now open.
- The NALRC has summer institutes, focused on instructors of African languages.
